A floating rig or structure for drilling in the floor of an ocean using a rotatable tubular includes a seal housing having a rotatable seal connected above a portion of a marine riser fixed to the floor of the ocean. The seal rotating with the rotating tubular allows the riser and seal housing to maintain a predetermined pressure in the system that is desirable in underbalanced drilling, gas-liquid mud systems and pressurized mud handling systems. The seal is contemplated to be either an active seal or a passive seal. A flexible conduit or hose is used to compensate for relative movement of the seal housing and the floating structure because the floating structure moves independent of the seal housing. A method for use of the system is also disclosed.

Friction stir welding tool for overlap joint

The invention discloses a friction stir welding tool for an overlap joint. The friction stir welding tool is composed of a shaft shoulder and a stirring needle. The stirring needle is shaped like a frustum, the small bottom of the frustum is connected with the shaft shoulder, the end face of the large bottom of the frustum is provided with a round concave hole, and the outer surface of the frustum is provided with three arc-shaped grooves distributed in the circumferential direction. Meanwhile, the invention further discloses the stirring needle and the structures and the sizes of all parts of the shaft shoulder. When a stirring tool designed through the friction stir welding tool is adopted for carrying out friction stir overlap welding, the stirring needle of the frustum shape generates oblique upward thrust on plasticized metal around the overlap face, so that the perpendicular motion of the plasticized metal is reduced, and the perpendicular moving tendency of the overlap face is reduced. Moreover, as the concave hole and the grooves in the side face are formed in the bottom of the stirring needle, material flow in weld zones is improved, the overlap face is broken completely, and the weld metal can be mixed fully. Accordingly, the size of the hook-like defect in a weld joint obtained through welding of the tool is greatly reduced, and the strength coefficient of the joint is remarkably improved.

An earthmoving system, includes in one embodiment a laser transmitter for transmitting a reference beam of laser light, and a laser receiver mounted on a mast on the bulldozer blade. The bulldozer has a frame and a cutting blade supported by a blade support extending from said frame. The blade support includes hydraulic cylinders for raising and lowering the blade in relation to said frame, and for tilting the blade along its length. The mast extends upward from, and is movable with, the blade. An inclinometer is mounted for movement with the blade to provide an indication of the inclination of the blade. A sensor detects turning of the bulldozer. A control is responsive to the laser receiver, to the inclinometer, and to the sensor, for controlling the operation of said cylinders and adjusting the position of said blade. When rapid turning of said bulldozer is detected the control operates to reduce the errors that would otherwise result from an erroneous inclinometer output.
