Systems and methods for speckle reduction through bandwidth enhancement

A laser imaging system with reduced speckle is disclosed. The laser imaging system includes spatially superpositioned 1-D arrays or alternatively 2-D arrays of independent emitters of laser radiation, with each emitter having a spectral bandwidth Δλi centered at some arbitrary wavelength λ0i. The elements of the array are allowed, by design, to have a slightly different central wavelength, thereby creating an ensemble bandwidth ΔΛ which is much greater than the bandwidth Δλi of any individual emitter in the array. The resulting increased bandwidth reduces speckle in a displayed image.

Non-linear image scaling with seam energy

A system and method for expansion and reduction of images uses a hybrid resizing technique that combines seam carving and image scaling techniques to reduce or expand an image. Seam carving techniques may be used to identify one or more low-cost seams of an input image, and these low-cost seams may be scaled up or down to expand or reduce the overall input image and produce a resized image. A different scaling factor may be applied to different ones of the low-cost seams, dependent on the average or total energy value of each of the seams. The scaling factor applied to each seam may be dependent on the number of low-cost seams identified for scaling, which may be configurable by a user. A configurable look-up table may map seam costs to scaling factors, and may be accessed to determine a respective scaling factor to be applied to each identified seam.

Imaging apparatus and image recording method

According to the present invention, a reduced image is generated only from one of high-sensitivity image information or low-sensitivity image information when RAW data is recorded, and the reduced image is recorded on a recording medium together with the RAW data (first and second RAW data). Thereby, it is possible to create the reduced image in a relatively short time. In this case, if a reduced image is generated from the high-sensitivity image information, a high-contrast image with a desirable S / N ratio can be acquired. If a reduced image is generated from the low-sensitivity image information, an image appropriately representing the content of a reproduction area of the RAW data can be acquired.
