Water saver fire hydrant

Water saver fire hydrants save water by delivering their initial flow from a pilot valve to a collection of holes in the gasket faces of their hose and pumper outlet nozzles. These holes are normally closed off by the gaskets in caps and hoses, and the water that flows from those holes in the absence of those caps or hoses activates a mechanism inside the hydrant that either blocks attempts to obtain full flow from the hydrant or powers a hydraulic motor that closes the hydrant valves.

Collapsible compact carrier device with collapsible wheel construction

A wheeled carrier device is provided which, in one embodiment, includes a plurality of foldable walls supported on a base member and movable between an erected state wherein the walls define a carrier space and a collapsed state wherein the walls are folded on top of the base member. The carrier device has at least two wheels and a wheel mounting assembly pivotably mounts the wheels on the device on opposite sides thereof such that, in one embodiment, the wheels are movable through 270° from a first, operative position wherein the wheels support the carrier device and a second, inoperative position wherein upon release of a latching mechanism the wheels are folded over on top of the folded walls in the collapsed state thereof. A handle is affixed to the carrier device and is movable between an operative state wherein the handle can be used to pull the carrier device and an inoperative state wherein the handle is stowed in substantially flush relation with the remainder of the carrier. In other embodiments, the wheels are pivoted through 90° to the stowed state thereof. In some embodiments, one or more of the wheels is rotatable about a support axle and various arrangements are provided for fixating the wheels against rotation. In other embodiments, some of the same basic principles are used in a collapsible stroller / jogger as well as in a collapsible “fun car” for children.

Method and apparatus for treatment of bones

An apparatus for use in attaching bone in a patient's body is provided having first and second plates, each of the plates at least partially defining a recess. A nut is also provided, having an internal thread convolution and a plurality of bendable sections. A screw is also provided, having an external thread convolution which, upon rotation of the screw, engages with the internal thread convolution of the nut; and a plurality of resiliently bendable sections. Further rotation of the screw retains both the bendable sections of the screw in the recess of the first plate and the bendable sections of the nut in the recess of the second plate, prohibiting relative movement between the screw and the first plate and the nut and the second plate and providing radial compression to the first and second plates to secure bones together.

High-integrity interlocking nut and washer system

An interlocking nut and washer system exhibits a very high degree of inherent mechanical stability. The preferred embodiment includes an inner washer, an adjustment nut, an intermediate washer, and an outer nut completing an interlock assembly. Although the inner washer is technically optional, use thereof does reduce wear on the inner nut. While the invention maybe applied in different ways, the system is particularly suited to the controlled adjustment of tapered roller wheel bearings. In this case the system is provided on the spindle ends of an axle, which mounts a wheel assembly that includes tapered roller bearings.

A centrifugal pump having an adjustable clean-out assembly (60), the position of which determines the face clearance between a wear plate (72) and an impeller (20). The clean-out assembly includes an end cover (63) that threadedly mounts a plurality of adjustment assemblies. The adjustment assembly includes an adjuster (104) that defines a through bore for slidably receiving a retaining stud (66) that extends from the pump housing. Each adjuster includes an abutment surface (108) which engages a pump surface and which establishes the face clearance between the wear plate and the impeller. Each adjuster includes a hex-shaped head which is engageable by an associated locking member (120) secured to the end cover. Each locking member includes a locking collar (120a) having 18 teeth which allows the collar to engage the hex-shaped head of the adjuster in 18 different postions. By knowing the thread pitch of the adjuster thread, precise rotations of the adjuster can be used to establish a precise clearance between the wear plate and impeller. Once the adjustment is made, the locking collar is secured to the end cover which enables the clean-out assembly to be removed from the pump without disturbing the adjustment.

Automotive door check with energy storage body

A door check apparatus for an automobile comprises a unitary check body containing a pair of compliant leaves and a guidance arrangement which is adapted to be rigidly mounted to a vehicle door. It also comprises a check arm containing cam surfaces and detent features which is pivotally connected to a vehicle body structure and is configured to slideably interface with the guidance arrangement of the unitary check body. The unitary check body is manufactured from a resilient material so that the compliant leaves are capable of storing and releasing energy in response to the movement of the cam surfaces and detent features of the check arm relative to the guidance arrangement. Rotary motion of the vehicle door relative to the vehicle body structure is checked with predetermined forces generated from the energy stored and released by the compliant leaves at positions determined by the relationship between the detent features of the check arm relative to the guidance arrangement of the unitary check body.
