Electronic wallet management

A system (and a method) for electronic financial transactions includes at least of each of a sender having an electronic wallet, a recipient having an electronic wallet, a sending bank having a host application system and an authentication server, a receiving bank having a host application system and an authentication server, and a wallet management center with a host application system and an authentication server. The sender uses its electronic wallet to send an encrypted payment instruction directly to the electronic wallet of the recipient. The recipient can accept the payment by performing a second level encryption of the payment instruction for submission to the wallet management center for authentication. Once authenticated, the wallet management center immediately notifies the recipient and submits payment instructions for clearing by the corresponding sending and receiving banks. Payment authorization is authenticated directly by the sending bank without involvement of the wallet management center.

Wound retraction apparatus and method

A surgical wound retractor is adapted to dilate a wound stretchable to a desired diameter, the retractor includes a first ring having a diameter greater than that desired for the wound and being adapted for disposition interiorly of the wound. A second ring has a diameter greater than that desired for the wound and is adapted for disposition exteriorly of the wound. A plurality of retraction elements are disposed in a generally cylindrical relationship to each other, between the first ring and the second ring. These elements extend through the wound to exert a radial retraction force on the wound which is dependent on the distance separating the first ring and the second ring. Retraction elements, both distensible and non-distensible are contemplated with appropriate attachment elements at the rings to provide for variations in the retraction force. With a suitable retraction sleeve, a third ring can be provided to form a circumferential retainer to vary the retraction force. Rings can also be made inflatable or self-expanding to vary the retraction force. An associated method includes the step of rolling the second ring circumferentially of the third ring to form the circumferential retainer.

Systems and methods for distributing digital content from a service provider to users are described. In one aspect, a data partition scheme (methods and systems) is disclosed for a service provider to process and partition digital content into at least two parts: at least one enhancement part and at least one core part. The at least one enhancement part is much bigger than the at least one core part, but is of no or limited value to a user when the at least one core part is missing. The user can only reconstruct and play back the digital content when both the at least one enhancement part and the at least one core part is available. In another aspect, a distribution scheme (methods and systems) is disclosed to distribute the at least one enhancement part and the at least one core part over two separate systems: an enhancement part distribution sub-system built over a peer-to-peer network and a core part distribution sub-system built over a client-server network respectively. According to this scheme, a user acquires the at least one enhancement part through the enhancement distribution sub-system and the at least one core part through the core distribution sub-system, and assembly them to reconstruct and play back the digital content.

3-D portable impulse target for archery

An unanchored 3-D portable archery target made of foam can withstand a 20 to 150-pound blow from an arrow without tipping completely over even though the target's weight (e.g., about 10 lbs.) is less than the arrow's force of impact. To achieve such surprising and unexpected results, the target employs a unique combination of weight, foam density, and a center of gravity that is counter-intuitively elevated to provide the target with a greater rotational moment of inertia. Although it would seem that an arrow with 800 in-lbs of kinetic energy should be capable of completely tipping over a target that requires only about 15 in-lbs of energy to tip over, the target's foam core has a density and gumminess that quickly dissipates most of the arrow's kinetic energy before the energy has time to tip the target over. A hollowed-out base underneath the target provides the target with greater stability.

Residual gas removal method

A method of removing a residual gas from inside a conventional shipping container is disclosed. The method first involves the step of accessing the container by opening a door of the container and fitting a panel to the open door space. Next the method involves extracting at least some of the residual gas present in the container via an outlet valve located at the panel using an external suction pump. Finally the method involves providing a flow of a flushing gas into the container via an inlet valve located at the panel to flush residual gas from the container. The total pressure of gases in the container can be monitored and controlled by adjusting the flow of gases in the inlet and outlet holes or valves.
