Polymer lined sealing member for a container

A seal and method of manufacture is provided for sealing containers such as bottles, jars and the like. The seal (closure) can be formed with a lower sheetlike structure having a foam layer thereon. The lower structure can include foil and have a polymer layer, such as a PET layer thereunder A sealant layer can be provided under the bottom surface of the PET layer to bond the seal to a container opening. The polymer foam is advantageously polyethylene foam. Seals in accordance with preferred embodiments of the invention also include a top portion, which can be only partially bonded (directly or indirectly) to the bottom portion, so as to leave a tab portion extended therefrom. The top portion is advantageously bonded from periphery to periphery of the bottom portion and at or slightly offset from the diameter (middle) of the bottom portion. The top portion is advantageously formed with polymer material, such as an ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) layer, having a layer of PET bonded on the top thereof. A release strip, which can have a release layer coated on the bottom thereof can be adhered to the top or bottom structures and used to prevent the tab from adhering to the lower structure.

High expansion non-elastomeric straddle tool

The present invention involves a pack-off system for use in packing off an area of interest within a wellbore. The pack-off system comprises at least two packing elements disposed on a tubular body. The packing elements of the present invention comprise overlapping leaves which are pivotally mounted on the tubular body. The present invention further involves a method for using the pack-off system, wherein the packing elements are placed adjacent to an area of interest within a wellbore. The overlapping leaves of the packing elements are extended radially to effectively obstruct fluid flow in the annular space between the outermost portions of the packing elements and the wellbore. The bulk of the fluid introduced into the wellbore is trapped between the packing elements and is thereby forced into the area of interest.

Method of manufacturing a stay-in-place form

A stay-in-place method of manufacturing a composite form that is used to provide a strong and durable concrete structure. The form includes a composite shell having an inner wall surface defining an enclosure into which concrete may be poured and allowed to harden. The composite shell may be made of one or several layers of fabric having a resin matrix impregnated therein. The concrete hardens to form a concrete core within the enclosure and a liner is affixed to the inner wall surface of the composite shell to protect the composite shell from alkalinity in the concrete core. The liner includes at least one sheet of a water-impermeable material to protect the concrete core from water and other corrosive elements. The fabric layers are selected such that the fibers elongate as the concrete is poured into the enclosure due to a weight of the concrete and partially shrink back to compensate for shrinkage of the concrete as the concrete dries to form the concrete core. Such stay-in-place composite form can be used in prefabricated form to strengthen new constructions.

Razor blade

A razor blade comprising a blade substrate with a blade edge substrate portion ending in blade tip. The razor blade is covered by a strengthening coating deposited on the blade edge substrate portion via a deposition process.
