Methods and devices for optical stimulation of neural tissues

The present invention provides methods of directly stimulating neural tissue with optical energy. By stimulating neural tissue at wavelengths, laser pulses, and spot sizes disclosed herein, nerve stimulation may be used to uniquely stimulate neural tissue in way not afforded by other means of stimulation. It can allow basic scientists to study the properties of individual neurons or populations of neurons without piercing tissue with fragile microelectrodes. Furthermore, responses of neural tissue can be studied in a pure fashion without contamination by electrical artifact commonly seen with electrical stimulation. With respect to clinical uses, optical stimulation can be used to map function in subsections of peripheral nerves as an aid to operative repair. Finally, stimulation with optical energy does not require physical contact with the nerve which may be an advantage clinically when physical manipulation of neural tissue is not desired.

Method and apparatus for recognition and real time encryption of sensitive terms in documents

InactiveUS20060005017A1Function providedEliminated and reduced chanceComputer security arrangementsSecuring communicationPaper documentOverinclusion
A process for automatically selecting sensitive information in documents being displayed and / or generated on a computer to select sensitive information for encryption using pattern recognition rules, dictionaries of sensitive terms and / or manual selection of text. The sensitive text is automatically encrypted on the fly in the same manner as a spell checker works so that the sensitive information immediately is removed and replaced with the encrypted version or a pointer to where the encrypted version is stored. The keys used to encrypt the sensitive information in each document are stored in a table or database, preferably on a secure key server so that they do not reside on the computer on which the partially encrypted document is stored. Several learning embodiments that determine overinclusion and underinclusion errors in various ways and make adjustments to the rules and / or dictionary entries used to select sensitive information to reduce the errors are disclosed. Public-private key pair encryption algorithms and data structures to keep all the encryption keys stored such that they can be located is disclosed.

Architecture and methodology of redirection for dynamic new URL links

An architecture and methodology of redirection for dynamic new URL Links uses a first server device to get information flow content from a second server device. By inserting an application into the information flow content retrieved from the second server device, the first server device replaces the web objects, which may generate dynamic new URL links, with the redirect functions in the code and sends the content to the browser. The browser will execute the code automatically. Whenever the browser generates new dynamic new URL links, it would call the provided redirect functions, and thus redirect them and retrace back to the first server device.

Web-based client/server interaction method and system

A Web-based client / server interaction method and system is proposed, which is designed for use with a server / client architecture on a network system for the purpose of allowing Web servers to gather user-supplied data from Web clients, and which is characterized by the use of a specially-designed set of customized tags which are labeled to user-supplied data items through customized forms displayed through Web pages on the Web client. When the server receives the tagged data file, it is parsed to extract the data items and the associated tags that indicate the database table and fields where the data items are to be stored, and then stores these data items accordingly into the database. This feature allows Web servers to gather data from Web clients and store the gathered data into a database more efficiently.
