Neurostimulation system and method for providing therapy to patient with minimal side effects

A method comprises conveying a pulsed waveform between an electrode and a stimulation site of a spinal cord, thereby evoking the antidromic propagation of action potentials along a first sensory neural fiber creating a therapeutic effect in the tissue region, evoking the orthodromic propagation of action potentials along the first sensory neural fiber potentially creating paresthesia corresponding to the tissue region, and evoking the antidromic propagation of action potentials along a second sensory neural fiber potentially creating a side-effect in another tissue region. The method further comprises conveying electrical energy between an electrode and a blocking site rostral to the stimulation site, thereby blocking the action potentials propagated along the first sensory neural fiber and reducing the paresthesia, and conveying electrical energy between an electrode and a blocking site caudal to the stimulation site, thereby blocking the action potentials propagated along the second sensory neural fiber and reducing the side-effect.

Automatic error correction for inventory tracking and management systems used at a shipping container yard

A method automatically detects and corrects errors in a container inventory database associated with a container inventory tracking system of a container storage facility. A processor in the inventory tracking system performs a method to detect errors; this method of error detection obtains a first data record, identifies an event (e.g., pickup or drop-off of a container, or movement of handing equipment) associated with the first record, provides a list of error types based on the identified event, and determines whether a data error has occurred through a checking process. To correct the errors, this method further sets search criteria based on the error detection results, queries the inventory tracking database using the set criteria, determines error candidates based on the query results, evaluates the error candidates to identify a match or matches among the error candidates, and corrects the error(s) by modifying the error detection results together with the identified match or matches.

Method and apparatus for separating a pane of brittle material from a moving ribbon of the material

A pane is separated from a moving ribbon of brittle material by restraining the ribbon upstream of a score line prior to separating the pane. The ribbon is restrained by selectively contacting a first side and a second side of the ribbon in one of an opposite, overlapping or offset relation. The ribbon can be restrained prior to, substantially simultaneous with or subsequent to forming the score line. The restrained status of the ribbon is maintained during and immediately after separation of the pane from the ribbon, thereby reducing the introduction of a disturbance or bending moment into the upstream ribbon.

Root cause analysis optimization

Root cause analysis is augmented by providing optimized inputs to root cause analysis systems or the like. Such optimized inputs can be generated from causality graphs by creating sub-graphs, finding and removing cycles, and reducing the complexity of the input. Optimization of inputs enables a root cause analysis system to reduce the number of iterative cycles that are required to execute probable cause analysis, among other things. In one instance, cycle removal eliminates perpetuation of errors throughout a system being analyzed.

Noise reduction tubes

The invention uses tubes for the reduction of radiated duct noise. The tubes may be used to attenuate narrow band noise by diverting a portion of the acoustic energy through the tubes back into the duct. Upon reintroducing the diverted flow out of phase with the primary flow, acoustic cancellation is achieved. The frequency at which this occurs is dependent on the difference in the path lengths through the tubes and the separation distance—the distance separating the inlet and outlet of the tube. This invention can be used over varying frequency ranges by using an arrangement of flexible, constant length tubes. The effective frequency range is tailored by varying the separation distance and also allows the varying the angular arrangement of the tubes for more effective attenuation of spinning modes having varying propagation angle.

Lightweight structure particularly for an aircraft

An outer skin, for example of an aircraft body, is supported by a frame of longitudinal girders and circumferential ribs interconnecting the girders. Additionally, the outer skin is strengthened by reinforcing strips adhesively bonded to the outer skin between the ribs and girders. The reinforcing strips are made of material that is damage tolerant, for example high strength aluminum alloys and fiber composite materials are suitable for making the reinforcing strips. These reinforcing strips may extend in parallel to the stringers and / or the ribs and preferably form a lattice work. The reinforcing strips need not cross each other at right angles but should cross a crack propagation direction in the outer skin.
