User-selectable music-on-hold for a communications device

A communication device receives an encoded signal from a primary input source. The encoded signal includes periods of speech and periods of non-speech. The communication device includes a decoder to decode the received signal to produce a decoded signal. A detector of the communication device detects the periods of speech and the periods of non-speech within the decoded signal. A controller of the communication device provides the decoded signal to an output of the communication device during the periods of speech. The controller interrupts the decoded signal during the periods of non-speech and provides an alternate input from a secondary input source to the communication device.

IP telephone system having a hold function and a callback function

An IP telephone system having a function for holding a call connection when a first IP telephone terminal disconnects a call connection and a function for calling back from a second IP telephone terminal to the first IP telephone terminal when the call connection is in a hold state. The IP telephone system of the present invention includes a holding device. When the first IP telephone terminal goes into an on-hook state, an IP telephone exchange which manages the first IP telephone terminal switches the call connection between the first and second IP telephone terminals to a call connection between the holding device and the second IP telephone terminal. In addition, when the second IP telephone terminal requests a callback, the IP telephone exchange switches the call connection between the holding device and the second IP telephone terminal to a call connection between the first and second IP telephone terminals.

Exchange system

An exchange system capable of effectively providing a hold sound during holding time. The exchange system includes a first communication terminal (100) capable of packet communication, a second communication terminal (110) performing packet communication with the first communication terminal (100), and a network (130) connecting the first communication terminal (100) to the second communication terminal (110). When the first communication terminal (100) sets the second communication terminal (110) to the hold state, the first communication terminal (100) converts its hold data (103) by hold data conversion means (104) into a speech which can be interpreted by the second communication terminal (110) and transmits the converted speech as a hold sound.

DC holding circuit

DC holding circuitry that may be implemented with other parts of a DAA circuit to terminate a telephone connections at the user's end. The DC holding circuitry may be implemented using a synthesized inductor circuit powered by DC termination circuitry of a DAA telephone line circuit to provide quiet current that may be mirrored to provide the DC holding. The DC holding circuitry may be further implemented to actively steer DC holding current into multiple external transistors to share the power burden, and using an op-amp gain / feedback configuration to achieve low noise and distortion without the need for expensive capacitor-based filter and high powered transistor components. Variable biasing and active current steering may be employed to permit one or more external resistor / s to help dissipate power. The disclosed DC holding circuitry may also be implemented with a fast transient network having a single stage of fast transient filtering placed in the input network. A fast off-hook settling circuit block may also be implemented to achieve fast settling times by using an op-amp to clamp the receive pin voltage of a DAA circuit.

Musical tone reproducing apparatus and portable terminal apparatus

There is provided a musical tone reproducing apparatus, which stores tone color parameters in a general-purpose storage means, to thereby shorten the time taken for a tone color changing process. A CPU 10 registers a tone color parameter group that has been read out from a RAM 11 in a tone generator memory 30, which is a general-purpose memory, in advance. The tone color parameters required when a tone generation core 33 carries out musical tone reproduction are stored in a cache memory 32 for all channels. Upon the CPU 10 giving a tone color changing command to a controller 31, a specified tone color parameter is read out from the tone generator memory 30. The tone color parameter for a specified channel in the cache memory 32 is then rewritten with the read out tone color parameter. The tone generation core 33 reads out from the cache memory 32 the rewritten tone color parameter set for each channel, and hence musical tone reproduction with a changed tone color is carried out. Because a tone color parameter group of a freely chosen number of tone color parameters has been registered in the tone generator memory 30, the need to transfer a tone color parameter from the CPU 10 to the tone generator memory 30 each time a tone color is to be changed can be removed as much as possible. Moreover, the output bit width of the cache memory 32 is made to be large, and hence the tone color parameter the tone color parameter can be set into the tone generator means instantaneously. Consequently, even though the tone color parameters are stored in advance in the general-purpose storage means, the time taken for the tone color changing process can be shortened, and hence the occurrence of a break in sound generation during tone color changing can be prevented.

On-hold message system with flash memory drive

On-hold audio messages to be played to callers to a business telephone system who are waiting to be connected to a desired party are transmitted over the Internet to a plurality of computers at separated locations. The on-hold messages are downloaded into USB drives at each of the second computers and the USB drive is then loaded into the USB port of a digital message unit. A microprocessor in the digital message unit interrogates the files to determine the file structure and creates a file directory in the microprocessor. Operator controls allow the selection of a particular file which is loaded from the USB drive into the digital message unit where it is decompressed and converted into analog form to provide the output to the on-hold input of a business telephone system.
