Problems solved by technology

[0018] Therefore, a conventional telephone device including an integrated CIDCW receiver unit can disconnect or mute the handset's microphone or speaker, allowing accurate and reliable detection of call-related information, e.g., CIDCW FSK data, but this is only detected after the initial warning CAS tone to be realized later
Therefore, conventional additional CIDCW receiver units must analyze call-related information together with possible voice data, thereby reducing the reliability and / or accuracy of call-related information reception

Embodiment Construction

[0030] The present invention relates to an add-on CIDCW receiver unit comprising two serial telephone line interfaces (TLI) between a telephone line from a central office and customer premises equipment such as a telephone, rather than as in a conventional add-on CIDCW receiver The units are connected in parallel. This series interconnection allows the inventive add-on CIDCW receiver unit to disconnect, mute or suppress signals from the receiver section of the add-on CIDCW receiver unit for analysis on call information from mixing with the microphone signal of the customer premises equipment.

[0031] figure 1 An exemplary embodiment of an additional CIDCW receiver unit 100 in accordance with the principles of the invention is shown.

[0032] Specifically, the additional CIDCW receiver unit includes two Telephone Line Interfaces (TLI) 104 and 506 with the CIDCW receiver 102 . The first TLI 506 is set on the line side of the CIDCW receiver 102 , and the second TLI 104 is set ...

Abstract

An adjunct Type II caller ID / call waiting(WCIDC)receiver unit is provided which has a greatly improved ability to detect tones and other call related information on a telephone line from a central office while the customer premises equipment is in an off-hook condition. The inventive adjunct WCIDC receiver unit is placed in series between the telephone line from the central office and the customer premises equipment, rather than in parallel with the customer premises equipment as in conventional adjunct WCIDC receiver units. A second telephone line interface(TLI)is included in the adjunct WCIDC receiver unit.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the enhanced detection of non-voice information on telephone lines using additional call related information (eg caller ID) units connected to customer premises equipment. More particularly, the present invention relates to the ability to cancel or suppress voice signals in an additional call-related information receiver unit while connected customer premises equipment is off-hook, resulting in improved call-related information detection. Background technique [0002] Call information is useful to telephone system users. For example, a well known and common call information service provided in the United States is Caller Identification Delivery (Caller ID). Typically, such services provide the telephone number and home name information of the calling party to the called party before the call is answered. According to the display of the call information, the called party can decide not to answer the incoming call. Bas...
