In one example, a three-dimensional model of a dental part is generated from intraoral scan data of the dental part, the three-dimensional model including a representation of a preliminary tooth. An image of the prepared tooth is received or generated, the image including the height map. Data from an image is processed using a trained machine learning model that has been trained to identify edge lines of a prepared tooth, where the trained machine learning model outputs a probability map that includes, for each pixel in the image, a probability that the pixel depicts an edge line. The three-dimensional model of the tooth part is then updated by marking edge lines on the representation of the prepared tooth based on the probabilistic map.
