A supporting device for supporting in a lithographic projection apparatus a supported part relative to a supporting part, is presented. The supporting device includes a first part that engages the supporting part of the lithographic projection apparatus; a second part that engages the supported part of the lithographic projection apparatus; a supporting spring system disposed between the first part and the second part; and a position control system configured to control a position of the supported part. The position control system comprises at least one reference object that is movable relative to the supporting part; a reference support device that supports the reference object relative to the first part, wherein the reference object and the reference support device form a reference mass-spring system; at least one position sensor that detects at least one attribute of the position of the second part relative to at least one of the reference objects, the position sensor including a sensor output for outputting a position signal representing at least one of the attributes; and an actuator, communicatively coupled to the position sensor, that is configured to adjust the position of the second part relative to the first part, in response to the position signal.

An articulated equipment position control system and method are provided for equipment consisting of motive and working components. The components are connected by an articulated connector, such as a pivotal hitch. Systems and methods for controlling a rotating electromagnetic machine. The motion capture system, the processor, and the position control system comprise a complete closed-loop feedback control system.

Systems and methods for closed-loop feedback control of controllable devices using motion capture systems are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system includes a motion capture system configured to measure one or more motion characteristics of one or more controllable devices as the one or more controllable devices are operating within a control volume. Methods and systems for large-scale airframe assembly are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method includes measuring a plurality of discrete point positions at least one of on and adjacent to at least one of a first and a second component, and measuring at least one surface position on the at least one of the first and second components. The measured positions are compared with a desired position information (e.g., a computer aided design model). The comparison may include applying a fitting routine to the measured positions and the desired position information. Next, a transformation matrix for improving the comparison between the measured positions and the desired position information is computed. At least one of the first and second components is then moved according to the transformation matrix. During movement, the plurality of discrete point positions may be monitored and provided to the position control system by a feedback loop.
