A system, method, and computer program product of automatically connecting a mobile communication device to a communication network using a network resource classification database includes detecting a communication network access point using the mobile communication device and reporting network attributes associated with the access point to a resource classification server. The server analyzes and stores the network attributes, determines auxiliary data related to the access point, and uses a rules database to determine a category identifier associated with the access point. The server creates a resource classification characterizing the access point based upon the network attributes, auxiliary data, and category identifier. The mobile communication device queries the server, receives a resource classification, and connects to an access point based upon the received resource classification.

Method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium for searching and navigating a document database

A method, apparatus, and computer readable medium for searching and navigating a document database is provided. Document categories are assigned unique numeric category identifiers. Each document in a database is assigned to one of the document categories. Metadata is associated with each electronic document that includes the numeric category identifier corresponding to the category assigned to the document. The database may be searched or browsed based on category by utilizing the metadata. URLs may also be embedded in a Web page that includes a list of document identifiers and an index. The list of document identifiers is a list containing the identities of an arbitrary number of search results. The index identifies one of the documents in the list of document identifiers to be retrieved. When such a URL is selected, a Web server computer utilizes the list of document identifiers and the index to identify the document to be returned.

Data organization and management system and method

An information storage and management system pre-categorizes information in generic categories to which the information generally pertains, to facilitate organization of information with little or no effort on the part of the recipient. Providers send information to user data repositories associated with unique user destination addresses within the system. Identifiers associated with the information allow the recipient to easily assess the nature of the information and conduct further processing of the information if desired. At least one of the identifiers associated with the information is a category identifier, used to place the information in a location within the user data repository reserved for information in that given identified category. One of the ways in which the recipient can further process the information is to place the information in a custom location according to a custom category location within the user data repository. Such custom categorization can further be communicated to the provider or to a data processing station so that subsequent information from the same provider to the same recipient is automatically placed in the custom category location within the user data repository.

Method and a mobile terminal for performing a handover in a broadcast system

In a digital broadcasting network, a mobile terminal receives hierarchical ESG data relating to available broadcast programs adjacent network areas. The terminal is operable whilst receiving a first program from a transmitter in a first network area for detecting a need for handover to a second network area, and for then determining from the ESG data if the same program is available in the second network area If it is, the terminal then receives the program from a transmitter in the second network area. Otherwise, it determines one or more programs which are similar to the first program, and presents them on a display for selection by a user. This involves determining which programs have an identifier in common with the first program. Sharing of full text index entries across application boundaries

A method and system for sharing full text index entries across application boundaries in which documents are obtained by a shared, platform level indexing service, and a determination is made as to whether the received documents are duplicates with regard to previously indexed documents. If a document is determined to be a duplicate, the index representation of the previously indexed copy of the document is modified to indicate that the document is also associated with another application or context. If a document is not a duplicate of a previously indexed document, the document is indexed to support future searches and / or other processing. The index representation of a document includes application category identifiers associating one or more applications or contexts with the document. When a document is indexed, one or more category identifiers are generated and stored in association with that document. The category identifiers for an indexed document may, for example, represent an application that received, stored, or otherwise processed that document. The application category identifiers enable category specific searching by applications sharing a common search index. A software category filter may be provided to process search results from the shared search index, so that only documents associated with certain categories are returned. Accordingly, one or more search categories may be determined for a given search query, based on an application generating the search query, or some other context information, and then used to filter the search results provided from the shared search index.

Method and system for providing a shared search index in a peer to peer network

A method and system for sharing search index entries across multiple computer systems organized in a peer to peer network, in which unique content is indexed only once, even though the content may be physically duplicated in multiple computer systems in the peer to peer network. When files are obtained by a shared indexing service, and a determination is made as to whether the received files are duplicates with regard to previously indexed files. If a file is determined to be a duplicate, the index representation of the previously indexed copy of the file is modified to indicate that the file is also associated with another computer system in the peer to peer network. If a file is not a duplicate of a previously indexed file, the file is indexed to support future searches. The index representation of a file includes category identifiers associating one or more computer systems with the file. When a file is indexed, one or more category identifiers are generated and stored in association with that file. The category identifiers for an indexed file may represent host computer systems on which copies of the file are stored. The category identifiers enable location specific searching by computer systems in a peer to peer network sharing a common search index.
