The face recognition method includes: when a face recognition request triggered by a user for a face recognition control in a terminal is detected, collecting a face image of a to-be-recognized object according to the face recognition request, wherein the face recognition requestcarries a category identifier; detecting the image quality of the face image to obtain the quality information of the face image; if the quality information of the face image meets a preset quality condition, obtaining a face sample feature set of a category corresponding to the category identifier from the terminal, the face sample feature set comprising a plurality of face sample features, and the face sample features being obtained by performing feature extraction on face image samples; performing feature extraction on the face image, and comparing the extracted face features with the facesample feature set; determining the identity of the to-be-identified object according to a comparison result.
