Bumper for pedestrian impact having thermoformed energy absorber

A vehicle bumper system includes a beam and a thermoformed energy absorber positioned on a face of the beam. The thermoformed energy absorber has a plurality of elongated crush boxes thermoformed from a base flange. Crush boxes near a center of the beam are up to about three inches deep, and as a result have side walls that are stretched when thermoformed, while crush boxes near ends of the beam are much shorter and hence not as thin. As a result, the center area has a softer impact intended to reduce pedestrian injury during impact.

System and method for performing precision guided air to ground package delivery

ActiveUS20190318296A1Slow decentReduce landing forceAircraft componentsNavigational calculation instrumentsHome deliveriesPatio
Described is a method of delivery for cargo or goods from an aerial vehicle (mothership) to a designated ground delivery location via the use of a direct air shipping (DASH) package. For example an aerial vehicle may be an airplane or helicopter that remains at altitude with a DASH packaged stowed for deployment. As the mothership travels in the vicinity of the designated location the DASH package flight control computer (flight controller) calculates a preferred travel trajectory based upon the aerodynamic properties of the package and location relative to the designated delivery location such as a small delivery pad located on a patio of a home. When the mothership transits through a calculated release point the DASH package disengages the mothership. As the DASH package descends it may increase accuracy relative to the designated delivery location by altering aerodynamic properties to maintain the preferred travel trajectory and decreasing landing zone size requirements and increasing precision of delivery. To reduce the impact force at landing the designated delivery location and / or the DASH package may contain a net, airbag, parachute or similar device to provide a suitably soft landing suitable for commercial home delivery.

An object, such as a soccer ball or a handball, is provided with perforated, interior panels disposed between an interior inflatable bladder and an outer covering which is stitched together from a plurality of individual panels. The stitching process produces raised portions surrounding the interior sides of the outer covering. These raised portions define recesses into which the perforated interior panels are disposed. The recess-filling panels overlie the ridges which are hard and whose hardness is counteracted by these preferably perforated panels. This provides a smooth surface against which the inflatable bladder rests. Additional flexure is also provided by perforating one or more of the layers in the outer covering. With particular reference to handball manufacture the interior panels comprise two layers, the outer one of which contains recesses containing shock absorbing gel type material.

Seat belt apparatus

In order to manufacture a kinetic energy absorbing member of simple shape at low cost which absorbs the kinetic energy of a pull-in member such as a buckle or a lap anchor when reaching the bottom, the kinetic-energy absorbing member (15) is composed of a thin-walled oval tubular member which is made of metal such as iron or aluminum. The kinetic-energy absorbing member (15) is arranged between a bracket and buckle such that the axial direction of the kinetic-energy absorbing member is equal to the pulling direction of the buckle. A wire (5) forms a U-turn about a pulley (6) of the buckle (4) so as to have two wire portions (5a, 5b) which extend through the inside of the tubular kinetic-energy absorbing member (15). As the pretensioner is actuated, the buckle is pulled with the wire (5) so as to depress the kinetic-energy absorbing member (15) with the bracket so that the kinetic-energy absorbing member (15) collapses, thereby absorbing the kinetic energy of the buckle when reaching the bottom.
