Application of resource limits to request processing

A server system having one or more processors and memory launches an instance of an application subject to a first set of resource constraints. Exceeding the first set of resource constraints will cause the application instance to be terminated. The server system transmits a first request from the application instance to a datastore server system. The first request is subject to a second set of resource constraints that are more restrictive than the first set of resource constraints. The server system receives a first response to the first request. When processing the first request exceeds the second set of resource constraints, the first response includes a first set of partial results and information enabling the application instance to request resumption of processing the first request, and when the first request was processed without exceeding the second set of resource constraints, the first response includes complete results.

Apparatus, systems, and methods for pre-heating feedstock to a melter using melter exhaust

Feedstock supply structure apparatus, including an exhaust conduit fluidly and mechanically connectable to a structure defining a melting chamber, the exhaust conduit positioned at an angle to vertical ranging from 0 to about 90 degrees. The exhaust conduit may include a heat exchange substructure, or the conduit itself may serve as a heat exchanger. A feedstock supply structure fluidly connected to the exhaust conduit. Systems include a structure defining a melting chamber and an exhaust conduit fluidly connected to the structure. The exhaust conduit includes a heat exchange substructure for preheating the feedstock. Methods include supplying a granular or pellet-sized feedstock to the melter exhaust conduit, the exhaust conduit including the heat exchange substructure, and preheating the feedstock by indirect or direct contact with melter exhaust in the heat exchange substructure.

Aspiration prevention mechanism

InactiveUS20080171963A1Reduce and eliminate problem of aspirationReduce and eliminate problemElectrotherapyMedical devicesGastric feedingPediatrics
A patient angle sensor is employed in conjunction with gastric feeding devices to shut off or to reverse the flow of fluid in the tube when the angle of a bed ridden patient becomes sufficient to allow gastric juices to percolate up through the esophagus and into the patient's lungs. In this way incidents of aspirational pneumonia in hospitalized patients is significantly reduced or eliminated.

Self-ligating lingual orthodontic bracket

ActiveUS20050221248A1Reduce and eliminate problem and disadvantage associateReduce and eliminate and disadvantageArch wiresBracketsOrthodontic bracketsEngineering
According to one embodiment, a self-ligating lingual orthodontic bracket is provided. A base is adapted for coupling to a lingual surface of a tooth in a person's arch. First and second flanges extend from the base to define a wire slot adapted to receive an orthodontic wire inserted into the wire slot. A flexible retaining clip is adapted to move generally vertically toward and away from the occlusal plane within a clip slot formed through the bracket. The retaining clip is adapted to apply a resilient force to an object positioned between the first and third portions, which is used to secure the orthodontic wire within the wire slot in a self-ligating manner. The retaining clip is adapted to be urged generally vertically toward the occlusal plane from a closed position to an open position to expose the wire slot to receive the orthodontic wire, the retaining clip being biased against the second flange when the retaining clip is in the open position due to the applied resilient force. The retaining clip is also adapted to be urged generally vertically away from the occlusal plane from the open position to the closed position to secure the orthodontic wire within the wire slot, the retaining clip being biased against the orthodontic wire when the retaining clip is in the closed position and the orthodontic wire is secured within the wire slot due to the applied resilient force.

Burner panels including dry-tip burners, submerged combustion melters, and methods

Combustion burner panels, submerged combustion melters including one or more of the panels, and methods of using the same are disclosed. In certain embodiments, the burner panel includes a panel body having a first major surface defined by a lower fluid-cooled portion of the panel body, and a second major surface defined by an upper non-fluid cooled portion of the panel body. The panel body has at least one through passage extending from the first to the second major surface, the through passages accommodating a set of substantially concentric inner and outer conduits. The inner conduit forms a primary passage for fuel or oxidant, and the outer conduit forms a secondary passage between the outer conduit and the inner conduit for fuel or oxidant. A protective member is associated with each set. The burner panels promote burner life and melter campaign length.
