A transmissive display apparatus 21 comprises a liquid crystal display unit 22 and a plane light source unit 23. The unit 23 comprises a tubular light source 24, a light guide 25 having a wedge-shaped reflecting groove formed at the bottom thereof, and a light-diffusing film 27 having anisotropy and/or ultraviolet (UV) absorbability. In the film, a light-scattering characteristic F(theta) representing the relationship between the light-scattering angle theta and a scattered light intensity F fulfills Fy(theta)/Fx(theta)>=1.01 over a range of theta=4 to 30°, wherein Fx(theta) and Fy(theta) represent the light-scattering characteristics in the X-axial direction and the Y-axial direction of the film, respectively. The film comprises a light-diffusing layer composed of a plurality of resins which are different from each other in refractive index, and a transparent layer laminated on at least one side thereof. The transparent layer at least may contain a UV absorber. Such a light-diffusing film ensures simplification of structures of a plane light source device and a liquid crystal display apparatus. When the film has anisotropy, the luminance in the display surface can be uniformized. A UV absorbable light-diffusing film absorbs UV from a light source (fluorescent tube) of the plane light source device (backlight), and can prevent deterioration of a prism sheet and a liquid crystal display cell.

Novel Transgenic Methods Using intronic RNA

The present invention relates to a method and composition for generating an artificial intron and its components capable of producing microRNA (miRNA) molecules and thus inducing specific gene silencing effects through intracellular RNA interference (RNAi) mechanisms, and the relative utilization thereof. The miRNA-producing intron so generated is not only useful for delivering desired miRNA function into the intron-mediated transgenic organisms or cells but also useful for suppressing unwanted gene function in the transgenic organisms or cells thereof. Furthermore, the derivative products of this novel man-made miRNA-producing intron have utilities in probing gene functions, validating drug targets, generating transgenic animals and gene-modified plants, developing anti-viral vaccines and treating as well preventing gene-related diseases (gene therapy).

The dongle and the mounting component include first and second inductive coils respectively and corresponding ferrite cores. The coils are positioned within the dongle and mounting component so that they are aligned for their inductive coupling when the dongle and mounting component are mated. The positioning and alignment of the coils provides a substantially closed magnetic path between the coils. The mounting component may be a receptacle.

Anti-IGF-1R antibodies and uses thereof

The invention relates to antibodies which bind to insulin like growth factor receptor-1 (IGF-1R) and uses thereof, in particular in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Specific human and murine monoclonal antibodies which inhibit IGF-1R-mediated pro-survival and tumor proliferation pathways, and variants, fragments, and derivatives thereof are provided. Also provided are specific human and murine monoclonal antibodies which block the ability of the ligands, insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and insulin like growth factor 2 (IGF-2) to bind to IGF-1R, as well as fragments, variants and derivatives of such antibodies. The invention also includes polynucleotides encoding the above antibodies or fragments, variants or derivatives thereof, as well as vectors and host cells comprising such polynucleotides. The invention further includes methods of diagnosing and treating cancer using antibodies of the invention.

Both the outer surface of the endoscope and the inner surface of the endoscope channel are protected from pollution by the disposal sheath, thus ensures patients to safely use the permanent endoscope.
