An RF shield is fabricated from a solid piece of metal or metal alloy. Holes are cut through the metal or metal alloy at fixed positions to form an array. The diameter of the holes is selected to be significantly smaller than the RF wavelength (e.g., ⅓) it is designed to prevent from passing through the holes. The thickness of the plate (length of the holes) establishes the attenuation of the shield. The number of holes establishes the air or other fluid throughput.

An improved shielding cage assembly that utilizes air guides is disclosed. The shielding cage has a hollow interior configured to receive an electronic module therein which generates heat during operation. An air guide member is provided that defines an entry for surrounding air to enter the shielding cage interior and circulate around the electronic module. A thermal transfer member is provided that defines at least one exit passage for the air in the interior of the shielding cage to exit.

A homogeneous EMI shielded vent panel is provided. The vent panel has an interior porous section and an exterior frame for attachment to an opening of an electronic enclosure. Methods and apparatus for shielding an object from relative high electromagnetic radio frequencies while allowing airflow to pass to and from the object are disclosed. According to one aspect of the present invention, a shield arrangement that shields a chassis includes at least a first plane and a second plane. The first plane has a thickness and defines a first plurality of openings that include a first opening and a second opening that are separated by at least a distance that is a function of the thickness. The second plane defines at least a third opening, and is approximately parallel to the first plane. The second plane is spaced apart from the first plane by a spacing that is a function of at least the thickness.

An electronic device includes a chassis base and a chassis cover which define an electronic enclosure. The chassis base includes a slant angle venting plate extending at an angle from a chassis base sidewall of the chassis base. The slant angle venting plate has a slant angle vent plate pattern formed therein. Further, the chassis cover includes a chassis cover venting pattern covering the slant angle vent plate pattern. As the slant angle venting plate is slanted, the available surface area in which to form the slant angle vent plate pattern is maximized thus maximizing air flow through the electronic enclosure.

The heat sink has a base portion configured to thermally couple to the at least one electronic component when the heat sink is coupled to the electronic assembly. The electronics enclosure also includes a conductive enclosure forming an enclosed volume around the electronics assembly. The enclosure has a first opening configured to fit around the heat sink and at least one second opening. All non-conductive passages from the volume to the external environment have at least one cross-sectional opening having a continuous conductive perimeter with a maximum linear length within the opening of less than one quarter wavelength of a determined maximum shielding frequency.

An RF screen for microwave powered UV lamp systems is provided. The RF screen is formed of a single sheet of conductive material in which a mesh pattern has been formed. The screen includes a non-traditional mesh pattern including individual openings with 3 or more nodes. The RF screen is generally configured to optimize the balance between light transmission and RF energy leakage desired for the particular application. Generally, it is desired that the RF screen has an open area percentage greater than about 80% while limiting RF energy leakage from the microwave powered lamp system to acceptable levels.

An electronics enclosure has a blower and diffuser received within an enclosure. Electronic components are also received within the enclosure. The blower diffuser is positioned in contact with at least one of the electronic components. A shroud surrounds the blower diffuser and the at least one electronic component, and is spaced from an outer surface of the at least one electronic component. An opening is formed through the shroud, such that air can be driven within the shroud from the blower diffuser, and across at least one electronic component, and then outwardly of the opening. A heat exchanger is positioned in the path of air leaving the opening.

An electronic device module includes an electronic device, a rack accommodating the electronic device, and a shield adjusting assembly. The rack defines a number of ventilation holes, and the shield adjusting assembly defines a number of through holes. The electronic device is placed in the rack to drive the shield adjusting assembly to a first position in which the through holes align with the ventilation holes. When the electronic device is detached from the rack, the shield adjusting assembly is restored by a resilient element to a second position in which the through holes offset the ventilation holes such that the ventilation holes are shielded.

An electromagnetic interference (EMI) shield that increases the airflow through the EMI shield while preventing line-of-sight openings through the EMI shield. Two plates are coupled together. Each of the respective plates has a raised component with an aperture therethrough to provide a path through the plate. The raised component is preferably scoop-shaped with the aperture at one end and an opposite end tapering into the respective plate. At least a portion of one of the raised components overlaps at least a portion of the other of the raised components when the plates are coupled together to form a path through the plates, while the plates are coupled together. Disclosed are methods and apparatus for improving the resiliency and airflow through a honeycomb air vent filter while providing EMI shielding. In one embodiment, the honeycomb can be manufactured from a dielectric (e.g., plastic) substrate to provide improved resistance to deformation as compared to conventional aluminum honeycomb. The dielectric honeycomb substrate is metallized to provide EMI shielding capability. The metallized honeycomb substrate is cut slightly oversize to fit an opening in an electronic enclosure, which results in elastic deformation of resilient perimeter spring fingers that are used to hold the metallized dielectric honeycomb in place and provide electrical conductivity between the metallized dielectric substrate and the enclosure, thereby eliminating the use of a frame. In another embodiment, additional conductive layers can be added to the metallized dielectric honeycomb. In yet another embodiment, the metallized dielectric honeycomb substrate can be utilized in a framed configuration to provide improved durability.
