An electrochemical battery cell comprising a cell housing defining an inner space, a first terminal and a second terminal; and at least one pre-formed pellet disposed within the inner space of the cell housing. The pellet includes an outer electrode portion formed from a material to geometrically define the pellet in a solid form. The outer electrode portion is in electrical communication with the first terminal of the cell housing. The pellet also includes an inner electrode encapsulated by a separator and embedded within the material of the outer electrode portion. The inner electrode is in electrical communication with the second terminal of the cell housing and electrically insulated from the outer electrode material. In a preferred embodiment, the inner electrode comprises an anode and the outer electrode portion comprises a cathode portion. The integrated anode/cathode pellet configuration facilitates lowers costs, a more robust design and ease of manufacturability while maintaining and allowing increased performance characteristics of the battery cell.

A battery venting system that is useful for cordless power tools. The system can include a cell that may have a sleeve with a plurality of apertures surrounding a peripheral side face of the cell to enhance heat dissipation from the cell. A plurality of cells may be electrically connected to form a cell pack. A carrier includes an upper carrier and a lower carrier to sandwich a plurality of cells that are aligned parallel to each other. The carriers include at least one vent hole that are aligned with a gap formed from adjacent cells to define an elongated fluid flow path. A charger may be provided to receive a housing containing the carrier and may be provided with a fan to direct a flow into the fluid flow path.

The invention provides a battery pack comprising an outer case, and a plurality of cylindrical lithium ion secondary batteries accommodated in the outer case in vertical N rows and lateral M rows (N rows≦M rows), with a gap between the secondary batteries, wherein the outer case has a draft port opened in a first wall facing an outer circumferential surface of the secondary batteries in the first vertical row, and an exhaust port opened in a second wall positioned at the opposite side of the first wall, in each secondary battery in the first vertical row and the second vertical row, a part of the outer circumferential surface, which is at a shorter distance from the first wall than any other parts, faces the draft port of the outer case.

There is disclosed a battery system to be used in downhole application. The battery system provides energy to operate the measurement devices associated with drilling. The system includes a plurality of cells, each comprising an electrically insulating mandrel which is shaped to fit over an inner tube, and a combination of an anode, a cathode and a solid polymer electrolyte, all disposed over the mandrel. The individual cells are mounted end to end and are interlocked together to prevent rotation of the cells relative to one another. The cells are electrically connected together and they are all mounted between an inner and an outer tube.

A storage battery cell includes: an electrode group in which a positive electrode including positive electrode current collector foil provided with a positive electrode layer containing a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode including negative electrode current collector foil provided with a negative electrode layer containing a negative electrode active material, and a separator that intervenes between the positive electrode and the negative electrode are laminated; a battery cell container; and an electrolyte, wherein: the positive electrode active material and the negative electrode active material respectively are substantially uniformly distributed, and the positive electrode layer and the negative electrode layer are provided respectively with regions in which respective quotients of the positive active material and the negative active material in the electrolyte are varied.

A battery mechanism is disclosed. The battery mechanism in one embodiment includes battery assemblies, a switching mechanism, and an actuating mechanism. The battery assemblies are removably mounted to the switching mechanism. The switching mechanism has a non-energized position in which the battery assemblies are electrically disconnected from the switching mechanism. The switching mechanism also has an energized position in which the battery assemblies are electrically connected to the switching mechanism. The actuating mechanism is connected to the switching mechanism, and switches the switching mechanism between the non-energized and the energized positions. The actuating mechanism preferably is activated remotely, improving personnel safety. The number and make-up of the battery assemblies may be varied to provide for different voltages.

Disclosed is a connecting structure for a secondary battery and a secondary battery pack including the same. The connecting structure for a secondary battery electrically connects a core pack where two or more unit cells are electrically connected and a protection circuit module made of the unit cells of the core pack and a PCB substrate. The connecting structure includes a metal plate having an electrode connecting unit connected to an electrode of each unit cell of the core pack and a circuit connecting unit connected to the protection circuit module, and a circuit terminal unit electrically connected to the circuit connecting unit by being located in a connection hole formed in the PCB substrate of the protection circuit module so that the upper and lower portions of the PCB substrate communicate with each other, wherein the circuit connecting unit is electrically connected to the circuit terminal unit by means of a physical connection method which allows selective connection and separation.

The embodiment of the invention discloses a cylinder battery which comprises a shell 1, at least one hollow cylinder 2, at least two winding cores 3, upper conductor conflux and lower conductor conflux trays 4, upper cover and lower cover plates 5, cathode electrode and anode electrode columns 6 and liquid injecting holes 8; the electrode columns 6 penetrate through the cover plates 5; the cover plates 5 and the electrode columns 6 are separated by utilizing an insulation material; the cathode electrode and anode electrode column 6 are respectively fixedly connected with the conductor conflux trays 4 of a cathode and an anode; the sealable liquid injecting holes 8 are arranged on the cover plates 5; the hollow cylinder 2 is fixedly connected with the cover plates 5; the hollow cylinder 2 is sheathed in through holes 41 of the conductor conflux trays 4; the winding cores 3 are distributed around the hollow cylinder 2; each of the anode and the cathode of each winding core 3 is provided with a lug, and the lugs of the anode and the cathode of each winding core 3 are fixedly connected with the upper conductor conflux tray and the lower conductor conflux tray 4; the upper conductor conflux and lower conductor conflux trays 4 are respectively connected with the cover plates of the anode and the cathode of the battery; and the cover plates 5 of the anode and the cathode 5 are respectively and fixedly connected with the upper end and the lower end of the shell 1. Pressure-balanced primary and secondary batteries suited for supplying power to downhole tools and for powering a downhole telemetry network. The battery comprises an electrochemical generator disposed within at least a partially compliant enclosure or housing. The compliant enclosure permits pressurization of the electrochemical generator, thereby compensating for the increased temperature downhole. By permitting the electrochemical generator to be pressurized, the thermal range of the battery is extended to beyond 120.degree. C. The electrochemical generator comprises flexible components comprising an ionic conductor intermediate anode and cathode materials, a current collector, and a terminal. The battery may be installed within a recess in the wall of the downhole tool or within an annulus formed by the inside wall of the tool and a liner. In another embodiment of the invention, the battery may be located within an operative portion of a selected downhole tool, itself.
