Adhesive Patch Systems and Methods

Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to patches for medical devices. In various embodiments, an adhesive patch of a medical device may have selective areas with adhesive material of varying adhesion strengths. In other embodiments, an adhesive patch of a medical device may include adhesive material that may be activated by a catalyst to increase or decrease the adhesion strength of the adhesive material. In further embodiments, a medical device may include a pierceable membrane containing an agent, the pierceable membrane positioned to be pierced by a needle and to cause some of the agent to be carried to the user-patient.

Safety needle assembly with correct medication connection

To ensure that there is no misconnection between a needle, such as for example a spinal or epidural needle, and the appropriate medication, the needle hub the needle is formed, by molding or extrusion, to have a given configuration. An adapter is placed between the needle and a conventional fluid store, or medical line. The end of the adapter that connects to the needle assembly is formed to have a configuration that is complementary to that of the hub of the needle assembly, so that the adapter and the needle hub may be readily mated to each other. The other end of the adapter is formed to have another configuration, for example a conventional luer, that is readily connectable to a conventional fluid store, such as a syringe that has a conventional luer. The adapter is formed by inter-fitting two elements to effect an integral locking mechanism to prevent the uncoupling of the fluid store and the adapter, once they are securely coupled. By thus configuring the hub of the needle to have a given configuration that is matable only to the end of an adapter that has a complementary configuration, and further providing an adapter that prevents the removal of the fluid store connected thereto, the potential for mis-connecting the needle to a fluid store that contains a different medicament is greatly reduced, if not totally eliminated.

Method and system for developing a conceptual model to facilitate generating a business-aligned information technology solution

A method and system for developing a conceptual model to facilitate generating a business-aligned information technology (IT) solution. Requirements of the IT solution are defined. A conceptual model is developed by business and IT stakeholders. The conceptual model represents an IT solution design and includes systems, conceptual components and operational concepts. The conceptual components represent hardware components and software components of the IT solution. The operational concepts indicate interactions among the conceptual components that are needed to perform business functions. A computing system generates documentation of the conceptual model. The documentation is available and accessible to the business and IT stakeholders and includes documentation of the operational concepts. The architecture and design of the IT solution is developed along with related documentation.

Combined hydrophobic-hydrophilic filter for fluids

A combined filter for removing an aqueous fluid and entities, such as bacteria, existing in such aqueous fluid, from a nonaqueous fluid is described. The combined filter consists of a hydrophilic filter and a hydrophobic filter that are arranged in fluid communication and serially to be placed along the flow path of a fluid. The hydrophilic filter and the hydrophobic filter may touch one another or be located some distance from one another. Also, a structure may be inserted into the space between the hydrophilic filter and the hydrophobic filter that will maintain the space between the hydrophilic filter and the hydrophobic filter without significantly restricting the flow of fluid. And, in one embodiment, the combined filter may be composed simply of material having both hydrophilic and hydrophobic characteristics on the molecular level. Preferably, however, the filters and spacing structure are contained within an encasement having an inlet and an outlet. As any filter or spacer is located farther downstream with respect to the intended flow of fluid, the dimensions of that filter or spacer in the direction perpendicular to the intended flow of fluid increase to a sufficient extent that, as the stream of fluid expands perpendicularly to its intended direction of flow, the possibility of the fluid contacting any solid element other than a filter is decreased.
