Collapsible Heart Valve with Polymer Leaflets

A Catheter Based Heart Valve (CBHV) is described herein which replaces a non functional, natural heart valve. The CBHV significantly reduces the invasiveness of the implantation procedure by being inserted with a catheter as opposed to open heart surgery. Additionally, the CBHV is coated with a biocompatible material to reduce the thrombogenic effects and to increase durability of the CBHV. The CBHV includes a stent and two or more polymer leaflets sewn to the stent. The stent is a wire assembly coated with Polystyrene-Polyisobutylene-Polystyrene (SIBS). The leaflets are made from a polyester weave as a core material and are coated with SIBS before being sewn to the stent. Other biocompatible materials may be used, such as stainless steel, Titanium, Nickel-Titanium alloys, etc.

Intervertebral prosthetic disc and method for installing using a guidewire

The present invention includes an intervertebral prosthetic disc, a method for installing a plate into an intervertebral space, and a method for installing a prosthetic disc into an intervertebral space. The intervertebral prosthetic disc can include a superior endplate and an inferior endplate, wherein at least one of the superior endplate and the inferior endplate is adapted to receive a guidewire. In the methods for installing a plate into an intervertebral space and for installing a prosthetic disc into an intervertebral space, a guidewire is used to facilitate installing plates onto vertebral bone endplates.

An interspinous spacer for placement between adjacent spinous processes includes a flexible, fillable container (e.g., a bag or balloon) for containing a material that is compressible during end use, for example, silicone after curing. The container is impermeable to the material it will be filled with. A fabric mesh, for example, made of PET fabric, provides structure for and containment of the container. The material can be injected into the container through an optional conduit, for example, a one-way valve.

Apparatus for treating venous insufficiency

A catheter delivers an electrode within a vein for a minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins and venous insufficiency using RF energy. The catheter is introduced into a patient and positioned within the section of the vein to be treated. The electrode radiates high frequency energy towards the vein, and the surrounding venous tissue becomes heated and begins to shrink. The catheter includes a controllable member for limiting the amount of shrinkage of the vein to the diameter of the member. The electrode remains active until there has been sufficient shrinkage of the vein. The extent of shrinkage of the vein may be detected by fluoroscopy. After treating one section of the vein, the catheter and the electrode can be repositioned intraluminally within the vein to treat different sections of the vein until all desired venous sections and valves are repaired and rendered functionally competent.
