Process for controlling the alumina content of the bath in electrolysis cells for aluminum production

A process for control of the alumina content of the bath in a cell for production of aluminum by electrolysis of alumina dissolved in a molten cryolite-base salt, consisting of alternation of phases of alumina underfeeding and phases of alumina overfeeding compared with a theoretical mean rate of alumina consumption of the cell, the said alternation being a function of values, calculated at the end of each control cycle i of duration T, of the mean resistance R(i) measured at the cell electrode terminals, of the rate of change of this resistance or resistance slope P(i), of the rate of change of the resistance slope or curvature C(i) and of the extrapolated slope PX(i)=P(i)+C(i)xT, these values being compared respectively with reference values Po, Co and PXo in order to modulate, according to an appropriate control algorithm, the alumina content of the bath in a very narrow concentration range between 1.5 and 3.5%.

Gas burner

What is shown is an improved gas burner assembly that is easily adapted to attach to a range top or cooktop, or the floor of the range and can draw air from either above the range top level by external vents or from below range top level through an open style mixing cup. The improved gas burner assembly uses a plurality of flame rings providing the user a wide variety of temperature settings starting from a low intensity simmer to high intensity cooking heat. A gas transfer channel provides a sustaining ignition source. The gas transfer channel has sustaining flame buttons interior to the burner body, and provides the initial ignition for the main flame rings. The gas transfer channel additionally has slots that provide additional sustaining flames for the main flame rings located on the exterior of the burner body. The improved gas burner assembly additionally uses a cover plate of transparent or translucent, heat proof material that allows the user to observe the interior of the burner to which flame rings have ignited. The cover plate also transfers heat from the internal flame rings to the cooking utensil imparting a more uniform transfer of heat to the cooking utensil.

Burner with flame ring stabilization chamber

Gas burners on modern kitchen cooking appliances are subject to fluctuations caused by drafts, breezes, etc. These burners will require flame stabilization chambers or another suitable engineering solution to overcome this problem. This invention describes a flame stabilization chamber that is constructed exterior to the main burner chamber and covered by the burner cap. The flame stabilization chamber acts to prevent extinguishing of the flame due to a random draft or breeze, by providing additional captured flammable gas / air so as to maintain the flame.

Automatic candle snuffer

The automatic candle snuffer is a mechanical timer driven device that extinguishes a candle in a jar after a user selectable time interval. A clamp mounts the candle snuffer to the mouth of the jar. The snuffing mechanism is a spring driven gear housing shaped to cover the mouth of the jar in the closed position, but which rotates around a stationary pin to uncover the jar. The gear housing contains a spring-driven timer, which drives a plurality of gears. Rotating the upper portion of the gear housing relative to the lower portion winds a timing spring, while rotating the entire housing around the pivot pin uncovers the mouth of the jar and winds a return spring. When the timer spring is unwound, a release mechanism frees the gear housing allowing the return spring to rotate the gear housing until the mouth of the jar is covered.
