The drug dispersion methods used include shear (e.g., air across a drug, with or without a gas assist), capillary flow or a venturi effect, mechanical means such as spinning, vibration, or impaction, and turbulence (e.g., using mesh screens, or restrictions in the air path). These methods of drug dispersion allow for all of the drug in the system to be released, allowing control of the dosage size. These methods also provide for drug metering, fluidization, entrainment, deaggragation and deagglomeration. The present invention also provides for the integration of a drug sealing system into the device. The drug sealing system provides a way of blocking the migration of drug from one area of the package to another. The drug seal system can also provide a method of tightly containing the drug until the package is opened, of directing airflow through the package and of managing and containing the drug during the package / device manufacturing process.

Microdermabrasion and suction massage apparatus are included in a single unit and alternatively connectable through a mode switch to a source of vacuum. The microdermabrasion section of the unit includes a crystal pick up station operating with a venturi effect to draw crystals through a hole into an air stream. The size of the hole is variable to control crystal density. A bleed valve is provided to control crystal velocity without controlling crystal density, while a bypass valve is provided to control crystal density without controlling crystal velocity. In an associated method, a microdermabrasion procedure is performed on the skin of a patient at an operative site. The mode switch is operated to activate the suction massage apparatus within the unit. This step is followed by performing a suction massage procedure at the operative site in order to promote healing of the abraded skin. The unit can be back-flushed by connecting various portions of the unit to a pressurized output of the source of vacuum.

Needleless syringe

A method of distributing particles in a flow of gas and a needleless syringe for use in the needleless injection of particles into the skin or mucosa of a vertebrate subject are disclosed. The syringe includes a convergence which reduces pressure of the gas flowing in the gas flow path due to the Venturi effect such that particles initially located outside of the gas flow path are drawn into the gas flow path under the action of the reduced pressure and become entrained in the gas. An exit nozzle accelerates the particles so entrained. In another aspect of the invention, there is provided a method of creating a gas flow in a needleless syringe which comprises flowing gas through a first convergence into a chamber to form a transsonic gas jet in the chamber and passing the gas jet from the chamber into a second convergence and along the nozzle.

Oxygen delivery cannula system that improves the effectiveness of alveolar oxygenation

The pulmonary oxygen flow control system delivers oxygen from a source of pressure to a nasal cannula worn by the patient. Between the source and the nasal cannula is a pendant flow structure which includes an orifice followed by a gas dynamic valve. When the downstream pressure in the cannula is high, the gas dynamic valve diverts the oxygen flow through the orifice to a flexible reservoir. Upon inhalation, the pressure at the cannula falls so that the gas dynamic valve delivers the orifice flow to the cannula and also utilizes a Venturi effect to withdraw oxygen from the reservoir and deliver it to the cannula. The cannula has nasal tubes which have angular faces and which are positioned farther into the nares to deliver the oxygen more efficiently.

The propellant and the active composition are mixed and dispensed as a spray at a nozzle by action of the venturi effect. Materials that are not compatible with the active composition can be added to the propellant and effectively mixed and dispensed, for example a fragrance that is incompatible with hypochlorite or one component or a two part hardening composition.

Injector Apparatus and Methods for Production of Nanostructures

An air handling system for a building having a ceiling and enclosed space, the system including four interconnected induction units for mounting adjacent the ceiling. These units form four sides of a rectangular assembly. Each induction unit includes an air plenum section and an air mixing section connected to a side of the air plenum section and forming an elongate air mixing chamber that extends downwardly to an air outlet. Supporting members mount the induction unit assembly at the ceiling so that each air mixing section when viewed in transverse, vertical cross-section extends at a substantial angle, which in a preferred embodiment is about 90 degrees, to the ceiling during use of the apparatus. Return air is drawn by venturi effect created by a fast flow of primary air into each air mixing chamber and heated or cooled at the heat exchanging coils.
