42 results about "Traffic count" patented technology

A traffic count is a count of vehicular or pedestrian traffic, which is conducted along a particular road, path, or intersection. A traffic count is commonly undertaken either automatically (with the installation of a temporary or permanent electronic traffic recording device), or manually by observers who visually count and record traffic on a hand-held electronic device or tally sheet. Traffic counts can be used by local councils to identify which routes are used most, and to either improve that road or provide an alternative if there is an excessive amount of traffic. Also, some geography fieldwork involves a traffic count. Traffic counts provide the source data used to calculate the Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT), which is the common indicator used to represent traffic volume. Traffic counts are useful for comparing two or more roads, and can also be used alongside other methods to find out where the central business district (CBD) of a settlement is located. Traffic counts that include speeds are used in speed limit enforcement efforts, highlighting peak speeding periods to optimise speed camera use and educational efforts.

Method and system for determining the impact of crowding on retail performance

The present invention is a system, method, and apparatus for determining the impact of crowding on retail performance based on a measurement for behavior patterns of people in a store area. The present invention captures a plurality of input images of the people by at least a means for capturing images, such as cameras, in the store area. In the captured plurality of input images, each person's shopping path is detected by a video analytics-based tracking algorithm. A subset of the people is identified as a crowd in the store area. In relation to the crowd, the behavior patterns of the target person are measured. After aggregating the measurements for the behavior patterns over a predefined window of time, the present invention can calculate a crowd index and a crowd impact index for the store area based on the measurements. A crowd index shows the level of crowd density in the store area caused by a crowd, including traffic count of the crowd in the store area. A crowd impact index comprises a traffic count of the target people who make trips to the store area and a shopping time index, such as average shopping time changes of the target people, in relation to a crowd in the measured store area.

Charging Of GPRS Traffic For Roaming Mobiles By Performing Traffic Counting At The User Terminal

The application relates to charging of traffic from terminals and in particular of charging of traffic from GPRS mobile terminals which are roaming in a visited PLMN (not claimed). According to the applicant's acknowledged prior art, either the traffic passes the home PLMN or the Home Operator relies on the Visited Operator to generate the CDRs to be used by the Home Operator for billing. Whereas the first solution leads to tromboning and inefficient traffic routing, the second solution calls for a strong trust relationship between the Home and the Visited Operators. The present invention circumvents both problems in that the terminal generates a traffic counting information and sends it to the Visited Network. The Visited Network generates a traffic counting record comprising the traffic counting information from the terminal and traffic counting information from the Visited Network. The traffic counting record is subsequently sent to the Home Network.

Methods, systems and processor-readable media for optimizing intelligent transportation system strategies utilizing systematic genetic algorithms

Methods, systems and processor-readable media for modeling and optimizing multiple ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) strategies utilizing a systematic genetic algorithm. A traffic simulation model can be configured in conjunction with a genetic algorithm based optimization engine for optimizing the transportation models. An origin-destination matrix that minimizes discrepancies between a simulated and an observed link traffic count can be estimated by considering a road network and a traffic count with respect to a region. A driver behavior can then be determined utilizing the origin-destination matrix via calibration so that the simulation model can replicate a freeway traffic flow in the region. An optimal parameter with respect to the ITS strategies can be determined to optimize a set goal with respect to a given constraint. Such an approach meets a level of service (LOS) metric as well as a revenue target under the applied ITS strategies.

Traffic counting method and traffic counting system based on local area network

The invention discloses a traffic counting method and a traffic counting system based on a local area network. The method comprises the following steps: a counting device acquires the IP addresses and the physical addresses of all devices in a local area network, and stores the IP addresses and the physical addresses in an ARP cache table thereof; and the counting device modifies the physical addresses of all the devices in the ARP cache table to the physical address of the counting device based on the ARP cache table. By arranging the counting device and modifying the physical addresses of a routing device and a client in the ARP cache table to the physical address of the counting device, when a server and the client transmit a data packet to each other through the routing device, data flows through the counting device first, and the counting device can count the traffic. Therefore, when the routing device has no traffic counting function, the traffic of the devices in the local area network can be counted without replacing the routing device.

Acoustic pulse transfer system for event counting

An acoustic pulse transfer device according to the invention has one or more carrier segments that can be connected together to transport acoustic pulses through them. Acoustic pulses generated by events in a first segment are transported through a second segment, which may or may not have its own acoustic pulse generator generating acoustic pulses in response to different events. Acoustic pulses generated in the first and second segments are then independently transported through a third segment. Any number of such segments can be connected together. Typically, acoustic pulses are generated by compressing a pneumatic tube in a carrier segment. The pneumatic tube is connected to a substantially non-compressible acoustic pulse carrier tube connected to the segment's pneumatic tube through a trough in a wall separating the pneumatic tube from the acoustic pulse carrier tube. Multiple carrier segments can be linked together so that a acoustic pulse generated in a distant carrier segment can be transported through one or more segments toward a device actuated by the acoustic pulse such as a counter. The invention is particularly useful in traffic counting applications.
