Many medical procedures, such as needle-sticking, could benefit from an assistive device that improves the optical contrast of externally targeted features and lumens of interest residing in and underneath the skin and / or exposed organ tissues. The inventive inexpensive device and method are useable on such externally targeted features and lumens while also protecting the practitioner and freeing up both of his / her hands, if necessary, to thereby eliminate practitioner self-sticking problems. The present device provides good optical contrast and also provides splash-protection against HIV, hepatitis and other blood-borne diseases. The inventive device method and apparatus may also include vibratory subcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), drug-based or heating treatment capabilities for reducing pain, both perceived and real pain, associated with a device guided procedure. Finally, the pain reduction mechanisms have also been found useful for lumen dilation.

Mask system and method for stereotactic radiotherapy and image guided procedures

InactiveUS7024237B1Fast re-localizationMinimizes and avoids disadvantageSurgeryDiagnostic recording/measuringStereotactic radiotherapyStereotactic radiation therapy
Repeat fixation for medical procedures is accomplished using a non-invasive locator, specifically a face mask. The face mask has at least three fiducial markers on it. By detecting the position of the markers, the position of features within the patient can be determined with great precision. The features can be the location of head or neck cancer or other target to which radiation or other medical procedure is to be applied. Since the face mask has been molded to uniquely fit to the patient's face, it may be removed after an initial imaging of the patient. The face mask may then be re-attached one or more times to the teeth. The face mask is molded to conform to the patient's face by using thermoplastic material.

Ablation treatment planning and device

An ablation treatment planning and, optionally, guiding method usable for e.g. tumour tissue ablation with a cryoablation needle which cools down an adjacent tumour tissue to thereby generate an ablation volume is proposed. In order to be able to plan an ablation treatment, a 3D image data set of a region of interest may be acquired by e.g. X-ray imaging using e.g. a C-arm system. Then, 3D model data of the ablation volume are introduced into the 3D image data set for example by tagging image pixels using a stencil buffer and possibly by culling specific inside areas and / or outside areas of the ablation volume. Finally, a 2D image to be visualized to a physician and comprising a projection of the region of interest and the ablation volume is drawn wherein an MPR (multi planar reformatting) plane in which the 2D image is drawn is used as a clipping plane. With such graphical approach, an ablation volume having any arbitrary shape such as for example an ellipsoid shape may be visualized within a 3D image space by drawing 2D images in any desired MPR plane such that also oblique orientations of the ablation volume can be represented. In a subsequent guiding procedure, an ablation needle may be guided to a location and in an orientation as previously planned.

Systems and methods for operating communication processes using a personalized communication web server

System and methods are disclosed for employing personalized switching and routing Communication Web Server (PCWS), enabling prompt activation, maintaining, monitoring and documenting of personalized communication processes, created and stored by PCWS authorized users, using PCWS guided procedure. Processes are either adopted for personalization from qualified process libraries offered by the PCWS, or customized by users utilizing the PCWS software. Thus, unskilled users can personalize complex “soft-switch” tasks for optimizing communication processes through a multitude of alternative channels, networks and devices with one or many communicating entities. The system's processes can be programmed to transfer information in forms such as audio, data, or video. Once personalized and stored in the PCWS site, remote activation of a process requires no more than an authorized initiator's submission of short, prompt Activation Message (AM) to the PCWS, wherein the AM contains the necessary identifiers of the message sender and the activated process.
