A system and method for content-filtering of data containers in a network supporting versatile communications services are disclosed. The content-filtering system is integrated with a content-adaptation system. Several server units handle data containers formulated at source according to different protocols. A content filtering process relies on characterizing each component of a container to produce a set of content descriptors and producing a set of binary conditions for each component according to a preset criterion for each descriptor. A set of rules is devised where each rule applies a respective Boolean expression to a subset of the conditions to prescribe a respective content-editing action. Methods of specifying and evaluating a rule's Boolean expression are disclosed. A formal graph is used to define inter-dependence of rules.

A system includes a mobile device and an optimization server. The mobile device is capable of transmitting request data that includes a requested webpage and identification data. Disclosed herein are methods and apparatus facilitating delivery of web content that has adapted for particular client devices, such as mobile devices. Doing so may involve assisting a server without the adaptation logic necessary to deliver adapted content to a particular client device. Described is a method and system by which a computer program window is sized based on the content to display. The window may automatically resize itself as content changes. When laying out an element tree of elements that contain the content, the elements provide desired size information to a parent container, and so on, up to the root element (e.g., a window). If a window property is set to size to the content, a window size is computed during layout, having a height and/or width based on the child elements plus X and Y deltas for a window non-client area and borders. An extensible method and system for dynamically transforming and routing the WWW content is provided that can enable efficient delivery and presentation of the content for a variety of end-user devices. Processing of HTTP request and response messages is combined with event-driven machinery that can perform transformations and routing of data or content. The machinery can include a logic-based inference engine adapted to determine which transformations are applicable in any given context. A knowledge base for the content adaptation and routing may also be provided. The knowledge base is segmented so that search space for the inference engine can be significantly reduced in any given context. Since the search space is much narrower, searching can be performed much more efficiently, which can result in improved performance.

What is disclosed is a system and method for performing a background deletion that exploits both local and global context to remove background and other white space between objects with the aim of retaining structural relationships between objects in the document. A document image is received and seams are carved through the image. Seams composed of uniform background pixels are identified. Adjacent seams containing background pixels are collected into groups of seams. The background seam groups are classified according to their widths. A target number of seams to be removed for each background seam group is then determined based on the classification. Seam groups which are wider will have at least the same or a greater target number of seams to be deleted therefrom than will seam groups of narrower widths. The document image is then resized by deleting seams from the seam groups based on the assigned target number.
