A sterilisation system having a controllable (e.g. adjustably modulatable) non-ionising microwave radiation source for providing microwave energy for combining with a gas (e.g. an inert gas or a mixture of inert gases) to produce atmospheric low temperature plasma for sterilising biological tissue surfaces or the like. A plasma generating region may be contained in a hand held plasma applicator. The system may include an impedance adjustor e.g. integrated in the plasma applicator arranged to set a plasma strike condition and plasma sustain condition. The gas and microwave energy may be transported to a plasma generating region along an integrated cable assembly. The integrated cable assembly may provide a two way gas flow arrangement to permit residual gas to be removed from the surface. Invasive surface plasma treatment is therefore possible. The plasma applicator may have multiple plasma emitters to produce a line or blanket of plasma.

More particularly, the present invention relates to a self-powered vibration monitoring device and system that generates an electrical signal that not only powers the device(s), but also is indicative of the frequency and/or amplitude of vibration of the equipment to which it is attached. Devices and methods for detecting islanding operation of a static power source involve injection of a non-harmonic error on the phase angle of the static power source in regular steps to introduce a very small intentional phase shift for the output voltage of the static power source in every voltage cycle which is corrected in each cycle in synchronization with the grid voltage in normal operation of the grid. In abnormal operation of a grid loss, this intentional small phase shift or error causes an intentional small frequency drift in each voltage cycle that continues in one cycle after another cycle. When the intentional frequency drift is over a preset level, a detection circuit starts to isolate the static power source from the grid to prevent islanding operation.

Methods and apparatus are provided for determining when vehicle powertrain torque is being used to substantially maintain a vehicle at a substantially zero speed on a graded surface, and to shift the supplied torque from the powertrain to another vehicle system or component. A vehicle controller determines that the powertrain system is supplying a hold torque, which has a magnitude sufficient to substantially maintain the vehicle at a substantially zero speed on the graded surface. A brake torque at a magnitude at least equivalent to the hold torque is automatically applied from the vehicle brake system to thereby maintain the vehicle at the substantially zero speed. Thus, the powertrain system can remove the torque it is supplying to hold the vehicle at the substantially zero speed.

A combined EGR cooler and non-thermal plasma device has first and second fluid passageways which are in heat exchange communication with one another. For solid food applications, the method and related apparatus comprises a conveyor-based transport system. For semisolid or liquid food applications, the method and related apparatus comprises a conduit-based transport system. Both the conveyor-based and conduit-based transport systems are capable of treating food with ultrasound, a UV-ruby lightwave combination, a pulsed electric field, and/or a magnetic field. The present invention is directed to a high expansion two-component structural foam that expands to about twice its original volume while maintaining good cell structure. The foam of the present invention is based on epoxy resins. Each component of the foam system exhibits storage stability, e.g., no phase separation, yet reacts when combined to provide a cured material having exceptionally good compression strength and modulus. The blowing system used to prepare the foam produces a foam which is uniform in appearance and is essentially free of the large voids often found in conventional two-part thermosettable compositions, even when a relatively large mass is utilized.
