A method of controlling autonomous or driverless vehicles in a specific control zone or in a convoy is disclosed. The vehicles enter the zone or form a convoy and come under the control of a zone authority or escort vehicle that coordinates the movements of the vehicles until they leave the zone or convoy. Escort vehicle communicate with central control facilities, each other or escorted vehicles. The behavior of the escorted or controlled vehicles is modified to insure that it matches a set of rules established by the zone authority. Possible zones include parking areas, indoor passages and areas with security concerns. The zone authority or escort vehicle may simultaneously control multiple autonomous vehicles and possible additional driver operated vehicles. Messages establishing control or providing continuing administration of rules or movements of escorted or controlled vehicles may be delivered by any type of communications link.

Inverter bridge controller implementing short-circuit protection scheme

A fault handling system for short circuit recovery in three-phase multiple-level inverter bridges, used to drive inductive loads, which waits for either desaturation of switches or expiration of a delay period based upon an amount of time before saturated switches are damaged before commanding off switches that are saturated, and which artificially creates a dead-short across the three-phase output to force switches conducting a fault current to desaturate. By delaying the switching-off of the inverter bridge during a fault, waiting for desaturation to occur, the statistical likelihood of switch survival is improved.

Riser joint and apparatus for its assembly

A joint design particularly useful in subsea risers is disclosed. The joint is preferably of a pin and box design where one of the components is held in a stressed condition as the joint is made up and locked together. A portion of the applied stress is then removed, leaving a preload in the assembled joint. A hydraulically operated tool is used to apply the stress while at the same time supporting the riser string. The joint can seal with resilient seals or metal-to-metal contact, or both. The locking device can be of a variety of types including but not limited to breech lock, threads, or lock rings. The pin and box may be made of different materials that have different yield strengths and moduli of elasticity.

Process for manufacturing a plastic fuel tank equipped with a pump

Process for manufacturing a plastic fuel tank equipped with a pump, by molding a tubular parison cut into two sheets with the aid of a mould comprising two cavities and a core, said process comprising the following steps: introducing the parison into the mold cavities; introducing the core inside the parison, said core having first been fitted with a swirl pot comprising a housing for the pump; closing the mold so that the cavities come into leaktight contact with the core; pressing the parison against the cavities by blowing through the core and / or applying a vacuum behind the cavities; fastening the swirl pot to the parison using a device firmly attached to the core; carrying out the final molding of the parison by blow molding and / or thermoforming; unmolding the tank, and mounting the pump in the housing of the swirl pot. The mounting of the pump is achieved by way of an intermediate part, the external shape of which is standard and complementary to that of the housing, and the internal shape of which is adapted to the pump.

Optical fiber installation at customer premises

An optical fiber is permanently routed easily, quickly, and unobtrusively at a customer premises using an inventive hand tool, without staples or other fasteners. The fiber has an adhesive outer coating that is activated as the fiber is applied by the tool on an exposed surface such as a wall, ceiling, molding, groove, or corner at the premises. When the activated coating hardens, the fiber is bonded to the surface on which it was applied, and the hardened coating also provides physical protection for the fiber. In the disclosed embodiment, the coated fiber is supplied on a spool that mounts on the tool, and the coating is activated by guiding the fiber as it unwinds from the spool through a chamber containing an activating substance. The fiber with the activated coating is then guided to an applicator wheel on the tool which applies the fiber to the surface.
