Surgical stapling instrument with multistroke firing incorporating an anti-backup mechanism

A surgical stapling and severing instrument particularly suited to endoscopic procedures incorporates a handle that produces separate closing and firing motions to actuate an end effector. In particular, the handle produces multiple firing strokes in order to reduce the required amount of force required to fire (i.e., staple and sever) the end effector. A linked transmission reduces the required handle longitudinal length, yet achieves a rigid, strong configuration when straightened for firing. A traction biased firing mechanism avoids binding in driving this straightened linked rack in cooperation with an anti-backup mechanism, with a lockout mechanism that prevents releasing the closure trigger during firing. Furthermore, an external indicator gives feedback to the surgeon as to how far firing has progressed, as well as providing a manual retraction capability.

Sliding reconstitution device for a diluent container

The present invention provides a reconstitution device (10) for placing a first container (12), such as a liquid container (e.g. flexible container or syringe), in fluid communication with a second container (14), such as a drug vial. To this end, there is provided a connector device (10) for establishing fluid communication between the diluent container (12) and the drug vial (14). The connector device (10) has a first sleeve member (32) having a first end (36) and a second end (38). The first sleeve member (32) has at the first end (36), a first attaching member (30) adapted to attach to the liquid container (12). The connector device (10) also has a second sleeve member (34) having a first end (48) and a second end (50). The second sleeve member (34) is movable axially with respect to the first sleeve member (32) from an inactivated position to an activated position. The second sleeve member (34) has a protuberance (66) on an inner surface of the second sleeve member (34). A second attaching member (28) is attached on the second end (50) of the second sleeve member (34) and is adapted to attach to the second container (14). The second attaching member (28) has a sealing member (84). A piercing member (76) is positioned in the chamber and projects within the sleeve members (32,34) for providing a fluid flow path from the first container (12) to the second container (14). The piercing member (76) is moveable from a first position in the inactivated position to a second position in the activated position wherein the piercing member (76) moves past the protuberance (66), the protuberance (66) preventing movement of the piercing member (76) back to the first position. The device (10) is movable from the inactivated position to the activated position by a force generally applied to the device outside the liquid container (12).

Methods and systems for improving resource utilization by delaying rendering of three dimensional graphics

Methods and systems for improving resource utilization when remoting three dimensional graphics commands that are generated by an application executing on a local computing machine. An agent that executes on a local computing machine intercepts a first call to a drawing library. The application generates this first call to request information from the drawing library. The agent further transmits a first frame that is generated by the application, to a remote computing machine, and prevents a return of the first call to the requesting application until the agent receives a notification indicating either the first frame was transmitted to the remote computing device or the first frame was rendered. Upon receiving such a notification, the agent permits the return of the first call to the requesting application.

A shock strut for an aircraft landing gear having a retract actuator that is moveable in length to deploy or retract the landing gear, that includes a shrink strut and a transfer device. The shrink strut may be compressed in length for stowage in the fuselage. The transfer device may be in closed fluid communication with the strut shrink for transferring and receiving hydraulic fluid to and from the strut shrink. When actuated by an aircraft hydraulic or electric system independent of any motion of the retract actuator, the transfer device may drive hydraulic fluid to the strut shrink thereby compressing or shrinking the shrink strut to a partially compressed length.

Method and apparatus for attaching connective tissues to bone using a cortical bone anchoring device

A bone anchor device for attaching connective tissue to bone comprises a disk adapted for insertion into a portion of bone to which the connective tissue is to be attached. The disk is movable between a bent orientation for presenting a smaller cross-section and an expanded orientation for presenting a larger cross-section. The bent orientation is utilized for inserting the disk through a small hole into a region of cancellous bone beneath the cortical bone layer, after which the disk is actuated to its expanded orientation so that it will be permanently anchored in the cancellous bone, as it will be too large to return proximally through the hole in the cortical bone layer. Two embodiments are disclosed. In a first embodiment, the disk is initially formed in the expanded orientation, of spring steel. In a second embodiment, the disk is initially formed in the bent orientation, and spring steel is not required.

Domestic appliance

A domestic appliance, such as a cyclonic vacuum cleaner, includes a component such as a separating apparatus, carried by a chassis. A catch is operable to release the component from the chassis. The component and the chassis can move with respect to each other. When the appliance is lifted there is relative movement, against the force of a resilient member, between the component and the chassis, so that the catch occupies a position that inhibits its release. Previous catches that inhibited from release when the appliance is lifted had a drawback in that slight relative movement between the component and the chassis when the appliance was resting on a surface tended to put the catch into the unreleasable position. The resilient member provides resistance to the catch moving into the locked position, thereby ensuring that the catch is inhibited from release only when the appliance is lifted from a surface.

Magnetic disk protection mechanism, computer system comprising protection mechanism, protection method for magnetic disk, and program for protection method

A magnetic disk device protection mechanism comprises a sensor that acquires information on changes in the environment of a magnetic disk device, a sensor driver, a shock manager that analyzes the information acquired by the sensor driver together with a history of the information to determine the status where the magnetic disk device is used to predict a shock, and an HDD filter driver that controls operations of the magnetic disk device including the escape of a magnetic head. The magnetic disk device can also comprise a diagnosis processing section that operates if a shock has occurred actually, to check whether or not the magnetic head could have completely escaped before the occurrence of this shock to carry out diagnosis as to whether or not a fault is occurring in the magnetic disk.

Optical recording medium and reproducing device

An optical recording medium is provided with a plurality of recording layers, wherein the recording layers are formed such that all the spacings between two recording layers in all the combinations selected from the plurality of recording layers do not coincide with each other. Accordingly, the return of lights reflected by other layers to an optical head along the same optical path as reflected light from a readout layer during the reproduction can be avoided. Therefore, an optical recording medium, from which a good reproduction signal can be obtained, can be provided by suppressing the deterioration of a servo signal and a reproduction signal of a reproducing device due to a variation of interference fringes on a light receiving element.
