Dynamically distributed, portal-based application services network topology for cellular systems

InactiveUS20060111095A1Increase incomeEasily augment and/or customize the “look and feel”Network topologiesAutomatic exchangesHuman–machine interfaceData acquisition
Methods, apparatuses and systems directed to a portal-based, dynamically distributed application topology for cellular systems. The portal-based application topology, in one implementation, is an application architecture featuring strategic dynamic distribution of the man-machine interface (such as data acquisition and information presentation) and the backend processing aspects, of a particular application. In one implementation, all terminal interfacing aspects (such as data acquisition, data presentation) are formatted and handled by systems associated with a cellular system operator, as described below, while background processing is performed by a processing facility remote to the cellular system operator. In one implementation, the distributed application topology allows a mobile station, such as a cellular telephone, to simply act as a thin-client accessing an application server via a cellular systems operator's web portal for page-based interface screens.

Method and System for Using a Component Business Model to Support Value Based Pricing of Business Solutions

InactiveUS20080167928A1Facilitates benchmarkFacilitates metricPayment architectureResourcesTime scheduleComponent business model
A method, system and service for using a Component Business Model (CBM) of an enterprise to support value based pricing of business solutions. Business solutions are composed from, and are described in terms of, services exposed by business components. Pricing is represented as the product of iterative negotiations between a solution provider and a solution consumer. Both the provider and the consumer are analyzed in terms of constituent services. Value based pricing is applied to the constituent services, and a value based pricing schedule for the provider or the consumer is constructed from an evaluation of pricing schedules for the respective constituent services. The value based pricing schedules are themselves configured from a plurality of pricing strategies, the configuration being designed to optimize a pricing schedule for the mutual benefit of the provider and consumer.

Modulation of sulfate permease for photosynthetic hydrogen production

Sustained hydrogen production is obtained by the culturing of a genetically-modified algae, where the ability of the chloroplasts to intake sulfate is reduced or eliminated compared to wild-type algae. The alga is cultured in a sealed environment in a liquid or solid medium that contains sulfur, and hydrogen is generated continuously. Alternatively, the algae may be cultured in the presence of bacteria that also produce hydrogen gas. The hydrogen produced can be collected and used as a clean energy source.

Provided herein are various connectors that allow for translating the axial movement of an implantable hearing transducer 108 from a first direction to a second direction. In various arrangements, these connectors form a spanning connector 200 that extend across a portion of a tympanic cavity of a patient. One end 202 of the connector 200 may be affixed to the tympanic cavity, and a second end 204 may engage an auditory component. In such an arrangement, a vibratory actuator 112 may engage the connector 200 between the first and second ends 22, 204. Such an arrangement may provide improved alignment of actuator movement with a direction of movement of an auditory component.

System and apparatus for continuous reference plane for wireless suspension and method of fabrication

A reference plane is added to the freestanding conductors of a wireless suspension to maintain a continuous reference plane therein. Post processing steps to the flexure are used after the underlying steel has been etched and prior to any forming or welding steps. Two screens are used to add an insulator layer and a conductor layer, such as copper, in the areas of the freestanding conductors. The insulator screen is sized to allow an insulator to overlap the original polyimide. The copper screen for the reference has a slightly longer screen pattern than the insulator screen. The conductor screen is sized such that the reference will overlap the insulator and make contact with the underlying steel at both ends of the freestanding conductors.

Method and system for safely transporting legacy data to an object semantic form data grid

A computer system architecture and process transforms the organizing principles of business data management seen in traditional or common place settings across disparate data stores into an object-semantic model. The transformation is implemented in a transitory, managed risk implementation approach for data access migration. This approach will enable data agility and will move data storage closer to information storage, while supporting the rapid development of business capabilities. This approach will bridge the gaps between relational database / file based storage (less expressive) and object-semantic representation (more expressive). This process / method will connect information residing in legacy data structures such as relational database / file based storage on disk drives to instances populating an expressive object-semantic model in persistent grid based memory. It will also maintain a linkage between the original legacy data to the enhanced object-semantic data allowing for ongoing modernization and removing the need for point migrations.

Deflection signal compensation for charged particle beam

Charged particles that are in transit through a deflection system when the beam is repositioned do not received the correct deflection force and are misdirected. By independently applying signals to the multiple stages of a deflection system, the number of misdirected particles during a pixel change is reduced.

Intraocular lens implant

An intraocular lens implant comprises two viewing elements (12, 13) and a spring element (14) in between. A distance between the first and the second viewing element (12, 13) along an optical axis (A-A′) of the lens implant (11) can be varied for adjusting the focal length of the lens implant (11). The lens implant (11) is designed to take a shape suitable for distant vision when the spring element (14) is in its relaxed state. A spring constant of the spring element (14) is dimensioned such that a force produced by a lens capsule (2) of the eye for holding the lens implant (11) transforms the spring element (14) from its relaxed state into a stretched state. By such design, the lens implant (11) may follow the same actuation principles as the natural lens does.
