Methods and apparatus for generating force and torque

A system for providing support and position control of a monitor. In one embodiment, a method of supporting a monitor includes converting an ascending energy storage member force curve into a substantially constant supporting force against the monitor. In one aspect, a method, of supporting a monitor includes providing an energy storage member and a cam which are cooperatively positioned so as to move relative to each other along the path of motion. As the energy storage member moves along the path relative to the cam, the cam displaces the energy storage member and thereby changes a force applied by the energy storage member on the cam, and wherein the cam converts the force applied by the energy storage member into a supporting force on the monitor.

Mobile communication terminal, communication method and program

A mobile communication terminal having adaptive array antennas is provided that is capable of transmitting signals to an intended base station without interfering other devices, even when a reception error occurs. The mobile communication terminal basically performs array transmission / reception using weight vectors produced in reception to weight and combine signals received via antennas, and thereby receives a desired signal. In transmission, the mobile communication terminal uses the weight vectors used in reception to weight and combine transmission signals and transmits them. However, when an error detection circuit detects a reception error in the desired signal, a transmission control unit turns off a switch for the antenna and transmits the transmission signals in a non-directional pattern via the antenna, so that the transmission signal reaches the intended base station.

Quantum energy storage or retrieval device

A solid state Quantum high Energy density Storage Or Retrieval device known as a quensor, and the trademark ENSOR(TM), having an energy density of about 1-15 kwhr / kg, comparable to gasoline, or more, is described. A fundamentally new principle is employed: A quensor film comprises oriented molecules with donor and acceptor groups and with metal layers on its surfaces. A dipole electric field may be established in the gap between a donor and an acceptor. Electric energy is stored in or retrieved from dipole electric fields throughout the volume of the quensor film. Electric energy is stored in the quensor film by charging the dipole electric fields from an electric energy source. Electric energy is retrieved from a quensor film by discharging the dipole electric fields and supplying the energy to a load. Electric breakdown in the film is avoided because positive and negative electric charges in the film are balanced everywhere. Busbars attached to the metal layers are connected to terminals for charging or discharging the device. The manufacture of a quensor film is described. A composite photovoltaic and quensor panel for the storage or retrieval of solar-electric energy day or night on demand is also described.

Side pumping of optical fiber systems via multiple delivery fibers

Efficient delivery of large amounts of pump laser power distributed along the cladding (11, 54) of a single core (6) or multiple core (7, 51) laser fiber, without degrading the fiber integrity or compromising the fiber's waveguiding property, is accomplished by injecting the power into the cladding via delivery fibers (18, 30, 42, 62) permanently affixed to a peripheral wall (20, 56) at an angle that satisfies the condition for total internal reflection of the pump radiation so that it is confined within the inner cladding of the laser fiber. In one embodiment, the laser fiber (51) is wrapped around a drum (53). Each delivery fiber has a numerical aperture (NA) less than half the NA of the laser fiber, and a core 21 having a refractive index substantially the same as that of the inner cladding (11) of the laser fiber.

Techniques for On-Demand Production of Medical Isotopes Such as Mo-99/Tc-99m and Radioactive Iodine Isotopes Including I-131

A system for radioisotope production uses fast-neutron-caused fission of depleted or naturally occurring uranium targets in an irradiation chamber. Fast fission can be enhanced by having neutrons encountering the target undergo scattering or reflection to increase each neutron's probability of causing fission (m, f) reactions in U-238. The U-238 can be deployed as layers sandwiched between layers of neutron-reflecting material, or as rods surrounded by neutron-reflecting material.

Method and system for coordinating and utilizing channel power information in an optical communications network

A method of coordinating channel power information in a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical communication system is disclosed. The method determines weighting values for each channel of the WDM signal based on channel launch powers. A source data object may used to transmit the channel weights and channel information from network elements having channel sources such as transmitters to downstream network elements. Block data objects may be used to identify channel blocks in the system and are also transmitted downstream. The source and block objects may be correlated to determine which channels are in-view at a particular point in the network and thereby determine which of the channel weights should be used as a basis for managing the network at that point. A WDM system is also disclosed which may actively control channel launch powers and feed the adjusted launch powers into the method of coordinating channel power information.

Suspension For Aircraft Tail Wheel

ActiveUS20170217574A1Effectively cushion forceSmooth transferWheel arrangementsCoil springEngineering
A reciprocating shock absorber combined with a coil spring are interposed between the fuselage of an aircraft and the tail wheel. When the tail wheel engages the runway, its attachment pivots, thereby compressing the shock absorber and the coil spring. This results in smooth transfer of forces from the tail wheel to the fuselage and to the pilot and passengers. If desired, one or more tension springs may counteract the forces imposed by the coil spring to restore the extended configuration of the coil spring and shock absorber.

Golf ball

The invention provides a golf ball with a ball surface having a plurality of non-circular dimples thereon, wherein mutually neighboring dimples have contour lines therebetween which are arranged so as to be substantially parallel and are separated by an interval of 0.05 to 1.0 mm, land areas defined by the substantially parallel contour lines have an outer surface which forms the outermost peripheral face of the ball, and the non-circular dimples have a non-circular shape with inside angles that are curved. This arrangement endows the ball with a distinctive, aesthetically pleasing appearance on account of the dimple pattern composed largely of non-circular dimples. Moreover, even though numerous non-circular dimples are arranged on the surface of the ball, the high surface coverage and air resistance-lowering effect enable the distance traveled by the ball to be increased.
