Embodiments according to the present invention allow multiple parties equipped with telecommunications devices (endpoint devices) of similar or differing audio capabilities to join in a conference call and enjoy the fidelity associated with their equipment. Rather than operating with the frequency and fidelity limits of traditional telecommunications circuits (for example, about 300-3500 Hz), at least a portion of a conference bridge according to the present invention operates at higher frequencies. Conference participants using high-fidelity endpoint devices hear each other with greater clarity and reproduction accuracy. Conference participants using conventional interfaces send and receive lower-fidelity audio, but it affects only their own participation and not that of the entire conference. Participants can connect via for example, wireline, wireless Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), or via networks such as the Internet. Multiple voice encoding schemes are accommodated.

Expert call analyzer and next generation telephony network configuration system

A method and apparatus for determining and monitoring the status of telephone calls in a Next Generation Telephony Network (NGTN) is disclosed. The method detects protocols occurring between two or more network elements of a telecommunication circuit and control protocol used to initiate or to react to the events generated by the network elements. One sensor is connected to the telecommunication circuits to sense raw call progress signaling information indicative of an event relative to the call on the monitored line. Another sensor is connected to call control channel of a NGTN network element. The sensors are connected to a call processing system. The call processing system includes a call progress event analyzer module consisting of a call progress event processor and a call progress state machine, a NGTN event processor and a NGTN state machine. The call processing system also includes a protocol independent call processor module and a multi protocol analysis module. Raw call progress signaling information and NGTN message information are converted to logical call handling events and forwarded to the protocol independent call processor module for processing. The protocol independent call processor module includes a timer processor to keep track of timing of events. The call processing system also includes an alarm handler to keep track and generate alarms when an error condition occur after processing the call progress events and the NGTN message events.

Test access matrix (TAM) protector module and associated circuitry for a telecommunications system

A Test Access Matrix (TAM) system permits installation onto an existing connector block. The TAM system exhibits a configuration that permits installation on to telecommunications circuits at the connection point provided for installation of protection modules or other devices that are inserted into the telecommunications circuit. The installation can be accomplished either before new or after existing connector blocks are installed on a telecommunication cross connect frame, tie frame, or other support structure. The TAM system can be instructed to connect a two or four wire test bus to any of the individual telecommunications circuits that are connected to the connector block. The test bus can be connected to the individual communication circuits in either a bridging, break towards the distribution side of the local loop, break towards the telecommunications equipment, or an insertion into the line via a “make before break” sequence. The bus can be further redirected to multiple test or monitoring devices.
