Two component fluid dispenser

A two-component fluid dispenser which can accurately mix two liquids of varying viscosity and then precisely deliver the mixture formed in discrete amounts. The mixture of the two components is delivered from a single delivery tube in a manner such that none of the mixture remains within the delivery tube at the completion of each mixing and delivery cycle. In one form of the apparatus, the single delivery tube of the apparatus is operably coupled with conventional hypodermic syringes of various sizes so that different fluids can be mixed in different ratios.

Continuous Feed Hypodermic Syringe with Self Contained Cartridge Dispenser

A hypodermic syringe and a plurality of single use cartridges able to be successively loaded into said syringe for providing rapid dispensing of a medicant to numerous users without possibility of contamination. The cartridges are continuously fed through the syringe for the quick and efficient inoculation of patients. An operator inserts a needle into a patient by pushing in a trigger. Prior to the needle being inserted into the patient, a disinfectant is dispersed from the cartridge to maintain sterility. An operator then pushes in a plunger forcing the medication through the needle into the patient. The plunger is pulled back into its original location after use. The needle is pulled back with the plunger out of the patient's skin and back into the cartridge. A new cartridge on a clip is then advanced into the syringe for use in inoculating the next patient needing medication. The syringe and cartridge dispenser further maintains a sterile environment during successive vaccinations reducing the transmission of any disease from patient to patient.

Device for manually controlling delivery rate of a hypodermic syringe and syringe having same

An injection retarder for mechanically / manually reducing the rate of delivery of a hand-held hypodermic syringe and a syringe having same are provided. The injection retarder and syringe include means for selectively slowing a rate of progress of the plunger into the barrel. For example, a thumb tip rest is provided against which the thumb may be braced, thereby providing additional mechanical advantage and much finer manual control of the rate of injection. Alternatively, a set of teeth and an opposing mating tooth or pawl are provided which increase friction and slow the progress of the plunger.

Kit for loading and disposal of hypodermic syringes used for administering medication

A kit for facilitating filling a hypodermic syringe from a medication vial and disposing of contaminated syringes includes a syringe-filling guide and a sharps holder. The guide has a base for retaining the syringe against relative movement as the syringe plunger is displaced. An attached cover is pivotally closed over the base and, as a vial is inserted into a channel in the base, the syringe needle pierces the vial stopper for drawing the medication therefrom. The cover includes a magnifying lens through which dosage indicia on the syringe are visible in enlarged condition to facilitate filling the syringe. The holder includes a base having a storage chamber, and a cover. A tray of the holder base closes the chamber and has an elongated slot and a plurality of resilient fingers adjacent the slot for supporting a contaminated syringe. As the holder cover closes over the tray, a pusher forces the syringe through the slot into the chamber.

Cassette for a hidden injection needle

A system for injecting a fluid medicament into a patient includes a drive mechanism, and a cassette loaded with a pre-filled hypodermic syringe. When the cassette is loaded, the syringe is held firmly inside and the cassette can be selectively engaged with the drive mechanism. The drive mechanism has two motors. A first motor initially moves the hypodermic syringe from a position inside the cassette where its needle is concealed, to a position where the needle extends from the cassette for insertion into a patient for an injection. With the needle inserted, a second motor pushes the syringe stopper to expel a fluid medicament from the syringe. After an injection, the first motor withdraws the syringe back into concealment inside the cassette, to again firmly hold the syringe on the cassette. The cassette and syringe, in combination, can then be removed from the drive mechanism and discarded.

The invention comprises a disposable hypodermic syringe with means for passive aspiration. The syringe comprises a barrel (10) of clear synthetic plastics material and a plunger (12) comprising an elastic bung (28) slideable in the barrel (10). Pressure on the plunger elastically deforms the bung (28). If this pressure is released the bung (28) resiles to effect aspiration. This aspiration is passive, requiring no active withdrawal of the plunger by the user. After use the syringe may be disposed of as a whole, with no disassembly, using one hand only. The syringe may be made by adapting cartridges conventionally used for dental local anaesthetic.

Hypodermic syringes with multiple needles are used to practice a method of calming psychiatric patients. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention generally used to calm violent adult patients, the syringe has a first barrel containing an antipsychotic, a second barrel containing a sedating antihistamine and a third barrel containing an antianxiety sedative. Each barrel also has a separate projecting needle and contains a piston. A common operator, preferably in the form of a plunger simultaneously pushes all of the pistons so that the patient receives three injections simultaneously. For children, a second embodiment of the syringe includes two barrels instead of three, each barrel containing a separate medication. In each embodiment the syringe is packaged in a manually openable plastic envelope with a safety cap over the needles.

Blood collection agency

The present invention is directed to a low cost shieldable safety needle assembly. The assembly includes a needle cannula and a tip guard axially movable along the needle cannula through a drive mechanism. The drive mechanism may be interconnected between the tip guard and the needle cannula through a hub. The tip guard is axially movable along the needle cannula from a proximal position substantially adjacent a proximal end of the needle cannula at the hub, to a distal position in which the tip guard protectively surrounds the distal end of the needle cannula, thus effectively shielding the puncture tip of the needle. The drive mechanism is a unitary structure which is capable of maintaining a first self-supporting shape for maintaining the tip guard in the proximal position and is deflectable from the first self-supporting shape to a second extended shape in which the tip guard is moved to the distal position. The drive mechanism may be a rigid flexible planar sheet material which includes a plurality of folds for defining the self-supporting shape. The needle assembly may include structure for mating with a hypodermic syringe, a blood collection set, or other medical device.

Ultrasound image assisted administering of medication

An apparatus and method for injecting a drug into a precisely selected location in a patient's body which is a combination scanner and drug injector. The scanner is a planar array of ultrasonic transducers which transmits a focused ultrasonic beam over the entire region of interest. The injector is preferably a hypodermic syringe mounted with the array on a base. The syringe is mounted to slide between one position where the injector conduit is retracted from the patient and another position where the adjustably positioned exit end of the conduit is in the desired location for injection of the drug. As the operator holds the scanner-injector against the patient's body with injector conduit retracted, he views on a monitor screen a virtual image of the conduit which is the image of the conduit after the conduit is injected into the body. The operator electronically adjusts the length of the virtual image and adjusts the position of the scanner-injector so that the exit tip of the virtual image is located at the desired location of the image of the region on the screen. Then the conduit is inserted into the body up to a length where the exit tip of the injector is at the desired location. Then the drug is injected into the patient. In another application of the apparatus and methods of the invention, a vacuum source is attached to the injector conduit and the device is used to aspirate fluids. instead of a drug In another embodiment, a portion of the ukltrasonic beam is focused on the region of interest before and during insertion of the conduit and drug to facilitate entry of the drug into the region of interest.
