System and Method for Transmitting a Services List to a Playback Device

There is provided a system and method for dynamically transmitting a services list to a playback device. The system comprises a display device, a playback device, and a mediator server with a mediator application. The mediator application is configured to receive, from the playback device, a service request for a services list, to send a services list for presenting on a display device in response to receiving the service request, to receive an activation request for at a third-party service listed in the services list, and to activate the third-party service in response to receiving the activation request. By programming a digital video disc such as a Blu-ray disc according to an API and using such a mediator server, a dynamically adjustable list of third-party services may be supported and used by the playback device without changing the disc application code.

Recording medium and producing method thereof, reproducing method and reproducing apparatus, and copyright managing method

A GUID as title information and a global serial number are recorded in a BCA of a digital video disc 60. A hash value of the GUID is embedded as an electronic watermark in a data area 64. When content data is reproduced from the digital video disc 60, a match of information of the two GUIDs is checked so as to prevent the digital video disc 60 from being illegally copied. A lead-in area 63 and a managing organization 20 provide disc revocation lists. With a global serial number and a disc revocation list, content data can be prevented from being reproduced from an illegally distributed disc. A film WM detector 84 detects data embedded in a movie shown in a theater so as to prevent content data from being reproduced from a disc on which the embedded data is recorded. Thus, content data can be prevented from being reproduced from an illegally distributed disc before a copyright supervisor of the content authorizes the disc to be distributed.

Online synchronized music CD and memory stick or chips

A synchronized music delivery system utilizes either a portable memory device including compact discs (CDs), digital video discs (DVDs) and memory sticks, or on-line or wirelessly delivered content in combination with a lighted keyboard and a sound reproducing system. A synchronized musical work, including music, lyrics and specialized coding, is recorded onto the portable memory device or is stored on a server for on-line or wireless delivery, in one embodiment by downloading the information from the Internet to the portable memory device; and in another embodiment in a stand-alone version involving pre-recording the portable memory device. The stored synchronized music in one embodiment is provided with the actual song recording, sing-along words and including letters of the alphabet to be struck on a standard alpha-numeric computer keyboard, indicia, scrollable score coding incorporating notes on a musical score and fingering or a lighted key drive, all information being synchronized with the work. In one embodiment the synchronized memory device is inserted into a suitable slot in an electronic music synthesizer having a lighted keyboard and song reproduction equipment such that a virtually unlimited number of musical works can be readily delivered in one embodiment to a CD ROM / DVD burner over the Internet, whereby not only can a karaoke-like audio-visual experience be provided, but also a synchronized lighted keyboard is provided to enable an individual not only to sing along, but to play along with the work.

Method and apparatus for creating an expanded functionality digital video disc

A method and apparatus for creating an expanded functionality digital video disc (DVD) creates an enhanced DVD with index tables for the program streams on the DVD. Index tables point to key locations in an MPEG program stream with each entry in the index table set to point to a group of pictures (GOP) header in the MPEG stream. The invention can select GOP headers at predefined intervals, semi-random intervals, or at key locations. The invention creates an index table either during storage of a program stream on a hard disk, during a scan of program material already stored on a local hard disk, or while program material is being read out of the hard disk and written to a DVD. The invention adds a new directory to the DVD structure and writes the index table(s) for the stream(s) into the directory. The new directory and its content are only recognized by invention-enabled DVD players and DVRs. Each media stream file in the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories has a corresponding index table file in the new directory. Alternatively, the index table files could be stored in the respective VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories. When an enhanced DVD created by the invention is inserted into a invention-aware DVR or DVD player, the index table files on the DVD are utilized to enable smooth special effects functionality.
