Wirelessly detectable objects for use in medical procedures and methods of making same

Various embodiments of a wirelessly detectable object to be used in medical procedures are provided. One example wirelessly detectable object includes a presence transponder that wirelessly receives a first interrogation signal and wirelessly returns a first response signal that does not contain identification information; a piece of absorbent material; and a pouch comprising at least a first flexible layer that forms an interior cavity and an adhesive layer physically coupled to at least the first flexible layer about at least a portion of a perimeter of the interior cavity. The adhesive layer retains structural and adhesive integrity at least at temperatures equal to 130 degrees Centigrade. The presence transponder is received and freely movable within the interior cavity. The pouch is physically coupled to at least a portion of the piece of absorbent material. The adhesive layer may be capable of withstanding multiple cycles of steam-based sterilization procedures.

Producing correction data for printer

Correction data is produced for density errors in prints produced using a printer. While printing a test image, the periods of rotation of one or more rotatable imaging members arranged along a receiver feed path in the printer are measured using respective period sensors. The printed test image is measured along a selected measurement direction and a reproduction error signal representing deviation from aim density is determined. For each period sensor, the autocorrelation of the reproduction error signal for the corresponding period is determined. If the determined autocorrelation exceeds a selected threshold, the reproduction error signal is decomposed at the corresponding period to extract the variation from the measured component. The remaining error signal is separated by frequency terms. The variations from the data at measured periods and the remaining error signal are used to produce a correction signal.

Method and system for providing communication protocol interoperability

A method for providing communication protocol interoperability includes receiving a first request from a first endpoint for communication with a second endpoint. The first endpoint uses a first type of request of a first protocol, and the second endpoint uses a second type of request of a second protocol. The first type of request and first protocol are different than the second type of request and the second protocol. The method also includes retrieving a selected piece of information from a selected element of the first request. The selected element does not match an element of the second type of request. The method also includes generating a second request by mapping the selected piece of information of the first request to a selected element of the second type of request. The method also includes processing and sending the second request to the second endpoint based on the processing of the second request.

Electromagnetic Field Applicator Array with Integral Sensors for Implicit Correction of Mutual Coupling and Mismatch

The invention concerns a system for producing. specific field distributions in a defined volume or region. The system comprises an array of electromagnetic field generating elements each with an integrated sensor for measuring the phase and amplitude of the current flowing in a metallic element (antenna or coil) or field in a slot based element, a measurement device to enable measurement of both phase and amplitude of the electrical signals from the sensors with sufficient dynamic range for quantification of the signal, a multi channel radio frequency power source with individually controllable amplitude and phase to excite each of the electromagnetic field generating elements, and a feedback controller enabling controlled adjustment of the amplitude and phase of the radio frequency power source based on the signals from the sensors. The system controls the outputs of a multi channel radio frequency power source such that the current in a metallic or the field in a slot based electromagnetic field generating elements provide the desired electromagnetic field values and the superposition of the fields produced by each electromagnetic field generating element produces said specific electromagnetic field distribution in said defined volume or region. As the signal picked up by each sensor is directly related to the phase and amplitude of the current or field in the associated electromagnetic field generating element and hence the electromagnetic field generated by the array elements, where the current or field measured is the sum of both the applied (from the radio frequency power source) and secondary excitations from mutual coupling and reflections hence the measured value represents the ideal excitation in the absence of mutual coupling, reflections and mismatch. The feedback controller modifies the direct excitation such that the total excitation is the ideal array excitation without coupling or mismatch. The invention implicitly corrects for the coupling and mismatch without explicit knowledge of, and calculation based on, the mutual coupling and mismatch, termed the coupling matrix, such that changes in the coupling matrix due to presence of objects or changes thereof are inherently taken into account. Additionally, by sequentially exciting each element in turn the invention can directly determine the exact mutual coupling matrix of the array even in the presence of variations in source impedance and undefined cable lengths such that initial excitation amplitudes and phases can be calculated to allow rapid adjustment to the desired values. A particular application of interest is in radio frequency hyperthermia applicator systems.
