Biaxially stretchable outer cover for an absorbent article

An outer cover for use with an absorbent article having a layer of nonwoven fibrous material and optionally including a polymeric layer laminated or printed onto the layer of nonwoven fibrous material. The outer cover includes at least one plastic component and at least one elastic component in the nonwoven fibrous material and / or optional polymeric layer. The outer cover can have different structural combinations of spunbond fibers, meltblown fibers, and / or nanofibers. The combination of plastic and elastic components results in an outer cover that has favorable mechanical, physical, and aesthetic properties. The outer cover can be rendered either uniaxially or biaxially stretchable via a mechanical activation process.

Nonwoven fabric liner and diaper including a nonwoven laminate liner

The present invention provides a bodyside liner for a disposable absorbent article that is a nonwoven fabric laminate that includes a thin layer of fine fibers that has a basis weight of less than 2.5 grams per square meter. The present invention also provides disposable absorbent garments, such as diapers, that in such a nonwoven fabric laminate to reduce the migration of particles in absorbent garments.

High performance elastic laminates made from high molecular weight styrenic tetrablock copolymer

An elastic laminate is provided which has an elastic layer and one or two outer facing layers. The elastic layer is formed from an improved styrene-(ethylene-butylene)-styrene-(ethylene-butylene) tetrablock copolymer, or a blend of the copolymer. The copolymer has a number average molecular weight of at least about 70,000. The two ethylene-butylene blocks have number average molecular weights which together constitute more than 75% of the number average molecular weight of the copolymer.

Elastic tab laminate

There is provided an extensible elastic tab designed to be adhered to the edge of an article, formed using a coextruded elastic film comprising at least one elastic layer and at least one second layer on at least a first face of the elastic layer with at least one face of the coextruded elastic film attached to at least a partially extensible nonwoven layer. The partially expandable, or extensible nonwoven layer has at least one first portion with limited extensibility in a first direction and at least one second inextensible portion in the first direction. The extensible elastic tab when stretched to the extension limit of the first portion or portions in the first direction will elastically recover at least 1.0 cm, preferably at least 2 cm providing an elastic tab having a Useful Stretch Ratio (as defined in the Examples) of at least 30 percent. The Useful Stretch Ratio includes the portion of the elastic recovery length having an elastic recovery force of greater than 20 grams/cm force, but below a given extension which generally is 90 percent of the extension limit. Further the elastic tab in the region of the Useful Stretch Ratio preferably has an incremental extension force of less than about 300 grams/cm. The invention tab provides definable predictable elastic performance and is useful as a fastening tab used to join to surfaces requiring elastic engagement, particularly a person or animal. The tab is particularly useful as a diaper fastening tab.

Hot Melt Adhesive Based on Olefin Block Copolymers

A hot melt adhesive composition, comprising a blend of components including about 5% to about 50% by weight of an olefin block copolymer; about 10% to about 70% by weight of a first tackifying resin having a softening point of at least about 95° C.; about 0 to 65% of a second tackifying resin that is different than the first tackifying resin; about 0% to about 60% by weight of a plasticizer; about 0% to about 20% by weight of an aromatic reinforcing resin having a softening point equal to or higher than 115° C.; about 0.1% to about 5% by weight of a stabilizer; and about 1% to about 40% by weight of a secondary polymer that is different from the olefin block copolymer, the first and second tackifying resins and the reinforcing resin, having relatively low crystallinity, which low crystallinity is equal to or less than 250 Joules / gram, wherein the components total 100% by weight of the composition, and the viscosity of the composition is equal to or less than about 20,000 mPa·s at 163° C. Laminates, especially those used in disposable soft goods, and methods of making such laminates using the hot melt adhesive composition are also described. The adhesive composition and / or laminate may be used in making a variety of end products such as a disposable diaper, a sanitary napkin, a bed pad, a bandage, a surgical drape, a tape, a label, a plastic sheet, a nonwoven sheet, a paper sheet, a cardboard, a book, a filter, or a package.
