Food slicer with suction device and adjustable cutting surface

A mandoline slicer having a blade, a pivotable platform and a compact, low profile suction device in a housing that is hinged to the front of the slicer so that the suction device may be rotated under the slicer for storage and rotated at least partially outward from the front of the slicer for use. The height of a front edge of the platform is changed in relation of the height of the blade by moving a lever horizontally in a slot in a side of the slicer. The lever is geared so that the changes in the height of the front edge of the platform are incremental. Thus, the thickness of food slices moved over the platform and into the blade may be varied by know incremental amounts. Rear legs, which are foldable under the slicer for storage, contain compartments or slots for convenient, compact storage of slicer attachments.

Log home fabrication process and associate log cutting machine

A log processing machine and associate method employs one or more log guides to make joinery cuts in a processed log which has at opposed edges of the processed log the raw log's natural external contour. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, each log guide includes a straight edge and is attached to the processed log to create an artificial straight edge for guiding the processed log through the joinery machine. Prior to attachment, centerlines are marked on the log guide and the processed log, and the centerlines are aligned when the log guide is attached to the processed log. The processed log, with the log guide attached, is then moved through the machine with the aid of computer control while the straight edge of the log guide follows a fence. In this manner, the position of the processed log and its centerline are always known so that the computer can make the programmed joinery cuts with high precision. An alternate embodiment of the invention employs one or more fence extensions as log guides. The fence extensions are positionable in guide channels formed in the contoured edges of the processed log. A further embodiment of the invention employs an opposed pair of clamping / alignment elements which are controlled by a computer to align and guide the log through the joinery machine.

Method and Apparatus for Turning a Log for Processing in a Sawmill

A log on a surface of a translatable carriage against head blocks of the carriage is turned by rolling the log on the surface of the translatable carriage after releasing the log from engagement by reciprocating dogs that are carried by the head blocks and before advancing the translatable carriage toward a saw. The turning of the log on the surface is accomplished by engaging the log by a reciprocating dog that is carried by a pivoting arm at a location away from the engagement of the log by the reciprocating dogs that are carried by the head blocks. After turning of the log on the surface of the translatable carriage, the log is pushed along the surface of the translatable carriage back toward the head blocks by pushing against the log by spaced-apart double-acting cylinders that are mounted on non-translatable stands respectively.
