Method and apparatus for accelerating the cyclic firing rate of a semi-automatic firearm

An accelerating assembly effectively to increase the cyclic rate at which the trigger of a semi-automatic firearm can be actuated to discharge the weapon. The firearm has a supporting device, a receiver housing supported from the supporting device, a trigger and trigger mechanism secured to the receiver housing. The accelerating mechanism incorporates structure that permits the receiver and the trigger to translate rearwardly a predetermined distance with respect to the supporting device in response to the recoil imparted by the discharge of the semi-automatic firearm. A biasing arrangement continuously urges the receiver, and trigger, to translate forwardly with respect to the supporting device substantially that same predetermined distance. A locating stop is mounted on the supporting device. The locating stop is disposed to be engaged by the shooter's finger after the trigger has been actuated to fire the semi-automatic weapon. That engagement of the shooter's trigger finger with the locating stop effectively immobilizing the shooter's trigger finger with respect to the supporting device until the shooter releases the trigger. The method of the present invention operates by depressing the trigger with a shooter's trigger finger in order to discharge the firearm. The shooter's finger is then immobilized in the position it has assumed to discharge the firearm. The trigger is translated away from the immobilized trigger finger to effect a total disengagement therebetween. Sequentially thereafter the trigger is biased into engagement with the immobilized trigger finger to effect successive discharges of the firearm.

Method and apparatus for monitoring handling of a firearm

A firearm monitoring system according to the present invention senses the position of a user hand or trigger finger on a weapon and generates a warning, notification, status or control signal when the user finger position is proximate the trigger. One embodiment generates and conditions an excitation stimulus (e.g., interrupted by the presence of a trigger actuator), drives a sensor with that stimulus, detects the user finger position through a change in the sensor output, and generates an appropriate signal for a downstream warning or other device (e.g., alarm, radio unit, laser sighting system, etc.). In this embodiment, the sensor may detect the presence of an object or finger penetrating a trigger guard plane. Another embodiment utilizes a set of sensors to detect the placement of a user trigger finger relative to the trigger. In addition, various types of output alarms may be utilized (e.g., visual and audio alarms, etc.).

Target grip apparatus for a firearm

A target grip for a firearm comprising fixed and removable trigger finger extenders for a side panel of the firearm for enabling the distal portion of a user's trigger finger to contact a trigger at an angle approximately perpendicular to the trigger for more shooting accuracy and consistency. Various size target grip trigger finger extenders are provided for the side panel of the firearm until the proper size extender is found by a user. In one embodiment, the target grip extender is secured by a locking device positioned within the extender. In another embodiment, the trigger finger extender is an integral part of the side panel. The side panel may be attached to the side of a firearm by screws or by an adhesive. In a further embodiment, the trigger finger extender is an integral part of a sleeve that slips over the frame of the firearm.

Sliding stock for firearm

A handle assembly and combined interface system for use with a semi-automatic firearm to facilitate controlled bump firing methods. The handle assembly includes a finger rest for the user's trigger finger. The interface system is attached to a receiver of the firearm, and is slideably disposed in the handle assembly for reciprocation. In use, the user pushes a firing unit portion forward with an opposite hand so that its trigger collides with the user's finger, thus stimulating a round of ammunition. Recoil forces the firing unit rearwardly so that the trigger separates from the finger. The user then applies another forward activation force that urges the firing unit forwardly again to repeat the cycle for as long as the user chooses. A lock can be selectively engaged to restrict longitudinal movement of the firearm relative to the handle, thereby returning the firearm to normal semi-automatic functionality.

Gun having a rapid fire trigger assembly

The improved gun has a rapid fire trigger assembly. The gun has a main body and a trigger connected thereto and depending therefrom, with the lower portion of the trigger biased into a forward, non-firing position. The improved rapid fire trigger assembly includes a housing having spaced sidewalls and interconnecting front and rear sides and is adapted to be connected to the gun in front of the trigger. A generally circular elongated tube passes transversely through the housing sidewalls and into the central space in the housing. The tube is rotatable relative to the housing and has a central portion within the housing, which central portion has a number of spaced radiating spokes extending outwardly therefrom. The tube also has opposite end portions extending lateral of the housing sidewalls, one of which end portions has a crank with a trigger finger-receiving space therein. The crank is adjacent the external surface of the sidewall. A generally horizontal wall is secured in the housing central space and a slide is disposed on the top of the horizontal wall, with the front of the slide engageable with the spokes and the rear of the slide extending out a slit in the rear wall of the housing for engagement with the trigger of the gun. When the crank is rotated by a gunner's trigger finger, the central portion of the tube rotates, causing alternately rearward movement of the slide to move the trigger into a firing position, which is followed by the trigger, upon firing the gun, moving forward to the non-firing position, pushing the slide forward. Rapid sequential firing of the gun is thus effected by continuing to turn the crank. The assembly housing can be connected to the trigger guard or directly to the gun main body and can extend back around the trigger if there is not trigger guard. A wedge can be provided to wedge the housing in place against the trigger guard.

Paintball gun and method

A paintball gun provides a double-acting trigger apparatus including a pair of finger engagement surfaces against which a user of the gun may employ a pair of trigger fingers. The user of the paintball gun may effect a firing operation of the gun by using either one of the two fingers to pull the trigger. Consequently, rapid firing operations of the gun are effected by dithering the two trigger fingers in rapid alternating motions to apply pressure on and off the two trigger engagement surfaces. Further, the paintball gun includes a programmable, microprocessor-based controller allowing the gun to be fired in response to a chosen discreet event in time. This chosen discreet event may include the opening and / or closing of a pair of switch contacts, for example; or the making or breaking of an electrical circuit effected between conductive components of the paintball gun. Movements of the double-acting trigger apparatus will result in plural discreet events separated in time, so that plural rapid-sequence firing operations of the paintball gun may be accomplished. Accordingly, a very high cyclic rate of fire is possible with a semi-automatic paint ball gun according to this invention.
