One embodiment of a trigger system with an integral selector for semi-automatic firearms. A selector allows the user to choose between two modes and rates of fire. A trigger (1) is made to allow passage of the lower portion of a selector cam (5) to the exterior of the firearm. A selector lever (6) is affixed to the lower end of the selector cam (5) on the exterior of the firearms action. Turning the selector lever (6) rotates the selector cam (5) which tilts a pivotal disconnector (3) on its axis, varying the amount of disconnector (3) engagement with a hammer (2). The variance in the disconnector (3) engagement causes the firearm to fire in one of two modes, firing one round with a trigger pull and resetting with trigger release, or firing one round with trigger pull, and firing another round with trigger release. A handle (20) for rapidly firing a semi-automatic firearm (22) having a trigger (24). The handle (20) includes a grip portion (52) defining a channel (54). A block (60) that is connected to the firearm (22) is slidably disposed in the channel (54) for allowing longitudinal movement of the firearm (22) relative to the handle (20). The handle (20) also includes a trigger guard (66) disposed on one side of the trigger (24) and extending longitudinally forward of the trigger (24) by a predetermined distance (D) to an open end. The handle (20) also includes a lock (44) having an open position for allowing longitudinal movement of the firearm (22) relative to the handle (20) and a locked position for restricting longitudinal movement of the firearm (22) relative to the handle (20).

A firing mechanism includes a hammer, an electrical solid-state full auto sear positioned to engage the hammer in a first electrical state and to disengage from the hammer in a second electrical state, and a controller connected to the electrical solid-state full auto sear for causing the electrical solid-state full auto sear to change from the first electrical state to the second electrical state. The controller may include circuitry for causing the electrical solid-state full auto sear to change from the first electrical state to the second electrical state at a predetermined rate, a predetermined number of times, or for a predetermined period of time. The hammer may include a retractable hammer bent for engagement with the electrical solid-state full auto sear, and the electrical solid-state full auto sear may include a piezoelectric device.

A firearm includes a frame and a slide. A firing mechanism for the firearm includes a striker-type firing pin, a trigger, and a trigger bar. A sear inside the frame is pivotally balanced about a central fulcrum, and is biased in a first pivotal direction by a spring. In this position, a rear portion of the sear engages the firing pin. Actuation of the trigger causes the trigger bar to move rearwards for engagement of a forward portion of the sear. This pivots the sear in a second pivotal direction, against the spring, which releases the firing pin. The spring then causes the sear to pivot back for reengaging the firing pin when it returns to its rear position. Movement of the slide to a retired position causes the trigger bar to disengage from the sear (preventing discharge of the firearm) until the slide returns to a battery position.

A closed bolt system with a trigger assembly for converting an open bolt, blowback type submachine gun into a single firing carbine is provided. The closed bolt system with trigger assembly includes a tensioned trigger member supporting a tensioned disconnector system. A tensioned sear interacts with the disconnector system and a tensioned hammer. The hammer strikes a firing pin in the bolt when it is released from the sear. The blowback of the bolt, as a result of expanding gases from the exploding and exiting round, re-cocks the hammer by re-engaging the sear with the hammer and disengages the sear from the disconnector system. Only after releasing the trigger will the sear re-engage with the disconnector system and thereby permit another round to be fired. A receiver having a cavity encloses the bolt and prohibits a fully automatic bolt to be used therewith.
