A safety apparatus for use by a worker on an elevated structure is disclosed. The purpose of the apparatus is to arrest the fall of the worker should they fall. Broadly the apparatus comprises at least two support posts having an upper end and a lower end supported on the structure and spaced apart from each other on the structure. Each support post has an I-shaped cross sectional configuration. The apparatus also includes a clamp on the lower end of each support post for clamping the post to the structure. The clamp itself comprises a base plate fast with the support post, a secondary plate or clamping plate spaced beneath the base plate, and fastening elements for drawing the two plates, towards each other with a member of the structure firmly clamped there between. The base plate projects laterally outwardly from the post on two opposed sides of the post, and defines at least one slot aperture on each said opposed side of the post through which the fastening elements are passed. Each post also has connecting formations towards the upper end thereof and an overhead safety line extending between said posts at a height of 1.7 to 2.0 metres above the member on which the posts are mounted. Each worker who works on the structure is fitted with a harness and a safety lead that can be releasably clipped to the safety line. This arrests the workers should they fall.

An anchor for securing a safety line to a container having an opening defined by an upstanding rim comprises a bar which is longer than the opening is wide. A pair of hooks are connected to the anchor bar by hook mounts. The hooks open downward toward ends of the anchor bar such that the rim of the access opening may be secured between each hook and an associated end of the anchor bar. A mounting tab is connected to an end of each hook below a hook bend. A safety line connector may be connected to either tab through a hole formed therein. The mounting tabs project outward to permit connection of a safety line thereto even when the access opening is covered. A third mounting tab, to which a safety line connector may be connected, is pivotally secured around the anchor bar.

A peak gusset for securing a safety line for a workman, a roof truss and an anchoring system incorporating the same. The gusset is a substantially planar plate including an attachment region, a coplanar anchor portion and bendable flaps. A plurality of teeth extends from the attachment region and into the side of a truss member adjacent the peak. The anchor portion extends laterally beyond the peak and a hole defined therein receives the security line. The hole is disposed above an upper surface of the truss member and vertically beneath the peak. The gusset is non-removable and does not need to be cut down before a ventilation cap is applied thereover. The safety line includes an elongated flexible pneumatic hose, an elongated flexible tubing enveloping the pneumatic hose, and an elongated, flexible, wear resistant sheath enveloping the tubing. A compressor air hose connector is attached to the end of the pneumatic hose located at the first end of the safety line hose, and is adapted to be connected to the outlet of an air compressor hose. A pneumatic tool connector is attached to the end of the pneumatic hose located adjacent the second end of the safety line hose, and is adapted to be connected to a pneumatic tool. A fastening member is attached to the first end of the safety line hose and is adapted to be releasably fastened to a safety line attachment member.
