47 results about "Hybrid computer" patented technology

Hybrid computers are computers that exhibit features of analog computers and digital computers. The digital component normally serves as the controller and provides logical and numerical operations, while the analog component often serves as a solver of differential equations and other mathematically complex equations. The first desktop hybrid computing system was the Hycomp 250, released by Packard Bell in 1961. Another early example was the HYDAC 2400, an integrated hybrid computer released by EAI in 1963. In the 1980s, Marconi Space and Defense Systems Limited (under Peggy Hodges) developed their "Starglow Hybrid Computer", which consisted of three EAI 8812 analog computers linked to an EAI 8100 digital computer, the latter also being linked to an SEL 3200 digital computer. Late in the 20th century, hybrids dwindled with the increasing capabilities of digital computers including digital signal processors.

Hybrid classical-quantum computer architecture for molecular modeling

A method of simulating a molecular system using a hybrid computer is provided. The hybrid computer comprises a classical computer and a quantum computer. The method uses atomic coordinates {right arrow over (R)}n and atomic charges Zn of a molecular system to compute a ground state energy of the molecular system using the quantum computer. The ground state energy is returned to the classical computer and the atomic coordinates are geometrically optimized on the classical computer based on information about the returned ground state energy of the atomic coordinates in order to produce a new set of atomic coordinates {right arrow over (R)}′n for the molecular system. These steps are optionally repeated in accordance with a refinement algorithm until a predetermined termination condition is achieved

Optimizing Power Consumption and Performance in a Hybrid Computer Evironment

A method for optimizing efficiency and power consumption in a hybrid computer system is disclosed. The hybrid computer system may comprise one or more front-end nodes connected to a multi-node computer system. Portions of an application may be offloaded from the front-end nodes to the multi-node computer system. By building historical profiles of the applications running on the multi-node computer system, the system can analyze the trade offs between power consumption and performance. For example, if running the application on the multi-node computer system cuts the run time by 5% but increases power consumption by 20% it may be more advantageous to simply run the entire application on the front-end.

Systems and methods for quantum computation

A hybrid computer for generating samples employs a digital computer operable to perform post-processing. An analog computer may be communicatively coupled to the digital computer. The analog computer may be operable to return one or more samples corresponding to low-energy configurations of a Hamiltonian. Methods of generating samples from a quantum Boltzmann distribution to train a Quantum Boltzmann Machine, and from a classical Boltzmann distribution to train a Restricted Boltzmann Machine, are also taught. Computational systems and methods permit processing problems having size and / or connectivity greater than, and / or at least not fully provided by, a working graph of an analog processor. The approach may include determining preparatory biases toward a first classical spin configuration, evolving the analog processor in a first direction; evolving the analog processor in a second direction and evolving the analog processor in the first direction until the analog processor reaches a second classical spin configuration.

Displaying critical system screens in a multiple graphics adapter environment

A system and method force a display device to receive the output produced by a graphics processing unit that is configured as the video graphics array (VGA) boot device for display of critical system screens. A hybrid computer system that includes multiple graphics processors configures a display multiplexor to select image data from one of the multiple graphics processing units for output to the display device. When a critical system event occurs and the graphics processing unit that is selected is not configured as the VGA boot device, system basic input / output system (BIOS) interfaces are used to configure the multiplexor to select the one graphics processing unit that is configured as the VGA boot device to output the critical system screen to the display device.

Computed tomography using simultaneous image reconstruction with measurements having multiple distinct system matrices

A method and apparatus is provided to reconstruct a collective image of a multiple method / geometry imaging system (e.g., a hybrid computed tomography system having energy-integrating detectors arranged in a third-generation geometry and photon-counting detectors arranged in a fourth generation geometry), wherein a splitting-based iterative algorithm using modified dual variables is used in the image reconstruction. Whereas a separate image for each method / geometry of the multiple method / geometry imaging system can be obtained by solving the distinct system-matrix equation corresponding to each respective method / geometry, the collective image is obtained by simultaneously solving a collective optimization problem including all respective system-matrix. The collective image is obtained more efficiently using variable splitting to subdivide the optimization into subproblems that are solved in an iterative fashion. For some applications, the collective image can be further improved by including a beam-hardening correction step.
