One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for controlling the spread of interests and content in a content centric network (CCN). During operation, the system maintains a routing policy for content data. The system also receives a packet associated with a piece of content or an interest for the content. Next, the system determines that the structured name included in the packet is within the namespace specified in the routing policy. The system further determines that the packet satisfies the condition in the routing policy. Subsequently, the system routes the packet based on in part the action corresponding to the condition as specified in the routing policy.

A home control and automation system and method. Next, the system determines whether content available at the first node satisfies the interest. If so, the system sends the content to the interest owner. Otherwise, the system marks the interest as pending, and forwards the interest to a second node in the network based on the interest. After receiving content from the second node in response to the forwarded interest, the system un-marks the interest as pending and sends the content to the interest owner.

One embodiment provides a system that facilitates forwarding a packet. During operation, the system receives a packet with a hierarchically structured variable-length identifier (HSVLI). The system then performs a lookup at a forwarding engine based at least on the packets HSVLI. The system further makes a forwarding decision based on the lookup.

A system for facilitating voice calls over a content centric network (CCN) receives from a CCN user an expressed interest in receiving voice calls directed to the CCN user, wherein information in the CCN can be addressed, located, and disseminated by its content identifier and wherein data packets in the CCN are self-authenticating. One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for facilitating session migration. During operation, the system receives a communication packet from a client destined to a remote server. The system determines whether the communication packet belongs to a pre-existing communication session, and whether session state information associated with the session is available locally. In response to the communication packet belonging to a pre-existing communication session and the session state information being unavailable locally, the system constructs an interest requesting the session state information, disseminates the interest over a network, and receives the session state information.

One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for facilitating communication in a content centric network (CCN). One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for facilitating custodian-based routing. During operation, the system receives, at a computing device, a request for a piece of content from a user, and determines whether the content is available locally. In response to the content not being available locally, the system identifies a remote custodian device that stores the content. The custodian device is not identified by its physical address. The system then identifies a communication endpoint associated with the identified custodian device, and maps a physical address corresponding to the identified communication endpoint. The system establishes a connection to the communication endpoint using the mapped physical address to obtain the requested content.

A method for routing data at a first node of a network including a second node. The method includes: providing the first node with a database storing an association between: an URL component identifying content at the first node, and a unique identifier associated to the second node, the unique identifier being specified by the second node; registering content locally stored in the second node by storing in the database an association between an URL component identifying the locally stored content and the unique identifier of the second node; and, upon reception from a requesting entity, by the first node, of a content request having a content identifier, the method includes: checking in the database whether the content identifier includes the URL component, and forwarding the content request to the second node if the content identifier includes the URL component associated with the unique identifier of the second node.

Disclosed is a centralized controlling method of the process of delivering a routing packet for content transmission in a content-centric network (CCN). The routing method in a content centric network according to the present invention includes: a content distribution controller in the content centric network receiving a request for specific-content distribution from a user, determining locations of routers storing the content, and finding one of the routers to which the request from the user will be transmitted; and the content distribution controller finding an optimal path in consideration of a traffic distribution status and then transmitting a forwarding information base (FIB) to routers included in the optimal path.

A node and a method for generating a shortened name robust against a change in a hierarchical name in a Content-Centric Network (CCN) are provided. The method includes receiving a packet requesting content including a hierarchical name of the content, and determining whether a prefix of the hierarchical name is identical to a name of the node. The method further includes generating a shortened name by removing the prefix from the hierarchical name if the prefix is identical to the name component, and changing the hierarchical name to the shortened name. A content replication system can cache nameless Content Object across multiple replica servers in a Content Centric Network (CCN). During operation, a CCN client can obtain a nameless Content Object from one or more content-hosting services by disseminating an Interest for a data collection, and receives a Content Object that includes a manifest for the data collection. The manifest can include Content Object hash (COH) values for a set of other Content Objects of the data collection. The client then determines a name prefix for a content-hosting service that hosts the data collection, and generates another Interest for a Content Object of the data collection. This Interest's name includes the name prefix for the content-hosting service, and also includes a COH value for the respective Content Object. The client disseminates the new Interest over CCN to obtain the respective Content Object of the data collection.

A device can process commands from a remote device that manages the local device over a content centric network. During operation, the device can receive an Interest for managing a device resource, such that the Interest's name includes a name or a name prefix associated with the device resource, and includes a command for managing the resource. If the device determines that the name prefix corresponds to the local device, the device analyzes the Interest's command to determine a device resource and performs the resource-managing operation on the device resource. If the name prefix does not correspond to the local device, the device performs a longest-prefix-matching lookup using the Interest's name prefix to determine a destination for the Interest. If the Interest's destination corresponds to a component of the local device, the device forwards the Interest to the component or a local agent for the component.

One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for constructing a linked object. During operation, the system constructs a first portion of the linked object. The first portion includes at least one or more data items and a computable identifier calculated based on the one or more data items, and the first portion is referenced by a self-certified name associated with the linked object. The system constructs a second portion of the linked object. The second portion includes at least the computable identifier and an external link that references a second linked object using a self-certified name associated with the second linked object.

A data-streaming system facilitates establishing a bidirectional data stream over a content centric network (CCN). During operation, the system determines a first routable name prefix associated with a service provider to which the network device desires to establish the bidirectional streaming session. The system also generates a client stream name to provide to the service provider. The client stream name includes a second routable prefix to a local network device, and includes a client stream identifier for a first data stream from the service provider. One embodiment provides a system that facilitates redistribution of content objects with a different name without requiring re-computation of the original authentication information. During operation, the system determines, by a content producing device, an original manifest which indicates at least an original name associated with a content object, wherein the name is a hierarchically structured variable length identifier (HSVLI) which comprises contiguous name components ordered from a most general level to a most specific level. The system renames the content object with a new name. The system also creates a new manifest which indicates the new name, wherein the new manifest includes original authentication information associated with the original manifest.

The invention belongs to a content data network technology, and discloses a data transmission method of a content-centric datacenter network. The method is characterized in that an NDN (Named Data Network) based content-centric routing and forwarding strategy is used; multicast characteristics and expandability of the CCDN (content-centric datacenter network) are guaranteed only by storing a complete PIT (Pending Interest Table) and part of an FIB (forwarding information base), by adopting a Hybrid Content and Location routing strategy and by taking limited storage resources and datacenter network topology of a datacenter switch into consideration; and different from an on-path caching strategy of the NDN, an off-path mechanism that a host provides data caching is adopted by taking large data volume characteristic of the datacenter network and host storage capacity of redundancy into consideration. One embodiment provides a system that facilitates service discovery based on the synchronization of manifests between devices in a content centric network by using a synchronization protocol based on exact match names. During operation, a local receives an advertisement corresponding to a remote manifest of a remote device. A manifest represents a collection of service records, and the advertisement includes a service record corresponding to the remote device. The local device updates its local manifest, in response to determining that the local manifest and the remote manifest correspond to a same namespace, by inserting the advertised service record into the local manifest.

The method comprises the following steps of: respectively determining data transmission round-trip time, transmission rate and energy consumption of each network interface according to history states of forwarding data of n network interfaces; computing the energy consumption cost according to the determined the data transmission round-trip time, transmission rate and energy consumption of each network interface; and computing the minimum energy consumption cost under the limitation of the round-trip time, and forwarding interest packets by selecting k former interfaces with largest forwarding probability when the energy consumption cost is minimum, wherein the k is less than n. According to the states of a plurality of internet interfaces of equipment, the optimum network interface can be automatically selected for forwarding the interest packets, so as to forward the interest packets by the plurality of interfaces and realize multisource acquisition, thus avoiding interface failure brought by movement, improving the data forwarding mobility and reliability, and optimizing equipment forwarding property.

A network node can use reputation values to determine when to forego validating a cached Content Object's authenticity. During operation, the network node can receive an Interest over a Content Centric Network (CCN). If the Content Store includes a matching Content Object that satisfies the Interest, the node obtains the cached Content Object. The node then determines whether the Interest includes a validation token that is to be used to validate the Content Object's authenticity. If so, the node determines a reputation value for the Content Object, such that the reputation value indicates a likelihood that validation of the Content Object's authenticity will be successful. If the network node determines that the reputation value exceeds a predetermined threshold, the node returns the Content Object without validating the Content Object's authenticity.

Provided are a content source node and a first content router and a second content router in a content centric network (CCN), and a communication method thereof. During operation, the mobile device receives a request for a piece of content from a user. In response to the request, the mobile device forwards the request to the content-retrieving agent which is configured to obtain the requested content from a remote device on behalf of the mobile device. The system allows the mobile device's receiver to be placed in an energy-saving sleep mode when the content-retrieving agent is obtaining the requested content for the mobile device and is not transmitting the content to the mobile device. The system allows the mobile device's receiver to wake up when the content-retrieving agent is transmitting the content to the mobile device. The mobile device receives the content from the content-retrieving agent.
