In an image conversion method and apparatus, luminance Y3 of each pixel of a converted image is obtained by use of an expression Y3=C1Y1+C2Y2 and from luminance Y1 of a corresponding pixel of a source image, luminance Y2 of a corresponding pixel of a low frequency image, and C1 and C2 which are functions of the luminance Y2. Since C1+C2 is constant when Y2≦T2, contrast of a low frequency component can be prevented from decreasing. In a portion in which the luminance Y2 of the low frequency image is low, the low frequency image is enhanced. In a portion in which the luminance Y2 of the low frequency image is high, the low frequency image is suppressed. In a method and apparatus for detecting noise level of an original signal in real time, a plurality of local regions are set on an input image in such a manner that the local regions are distributed uniformly over the entire area of an image. In each local region, determination as to whether or not luminance is saturated is performed. Variation in luminance is detected in each of a plurality of unsaturated local regions. Noise level is determined on the basis of the detected variation.

Vehicle surroundings display device and image providing system

In the vehicle surroundings display device of the invention, an image processor generates an image showing the situation around a vehicle. When an obstacle is detected by an obstacle detection means, the image processor determines an image missing region using the position of the border of the obstacle on the vehicle side detected by an obstacle position detection means and fills the image missing region with substitute image data. This eliminates unnaturalness of a display image the user may feel and enables the user to accurately recognize the position of a neighboring obstacle that is important in driving operation.

Method for adaptively adjusting gain, mapped to interface, of gesture movement

The invention discloses a method for adaptively adjusting a gain, mapped to an interface, of gesture movement. The method comprises the following steps in sequence: S1, capturing a video; S2, detecting one hands and the face of a user; S3, recognizing width information of the hand in the video; S4, acquiring position information of hand movement of the user; S5, calculating a movement speed of the hand of the user in a physical operation space; S6, calculating an adaptive cursor movement speed by adopting a function, related to the movement speed of the hand of the user, of a gain between a cursor constructed in allusion to the current gesture interaction system and the movement speed of the hand of the user; S7, carrying out weighted summation on the cursor movement speed and carrying out smooth processing; S8, calculating a movement increment which is inter-frame output by the cursor on a display screen; S9, carrying out responding on the display screen, and repeating the steps S4 to S9. According to the method, the relative stability of the gain between the cursor and the hand of the user still can be kept when the distance between the hand of the user and a camera in the direction of an optical axis changes, so that the natural and stable control of the cursor is realized.

Three-dimensional image output device and background image generation device

A projection (projected image) is drawn by perspective projection of a three-dimensional model with a background image having improved reality. When a sightline of the perspective projection looks down from above, the projected image is drawn into an object drawing area which is a lower part of an image picture. A background layer representing the stratosphere is separately generated by two-dimensionally drawing a background image, in which the stratosphere (hatched area) is opaque, while the remaining area is transparent. The boundary between the opaque portion and the transparent portion forms a curved line that is convex upward to express a curved horizon. The background layer is superimposed in front of the projected image, not behind the projected image, thereby covering an upper edge portion of the projected image including a straight-lined upper edge, so as to provide a curved boundary realizing a curved pseudo horizon in the image picture.

Image processing apparatus, method thereof, and image display apparatus

A plurality of sub-frame images are generated from an input frame image. Lightness of one or more sub-frame image included in the plurality of sub-frame images is adjusted to generate a light image and a dark image. Color-non-uniformity correction processing is performed on the light image and the dark image to reduce color non-uniformity of a display device using a correction value in accordance with an adjustment degree of the lightness.

Head-mounted display and brightness control method

In a head-mounted display for presenting a video by shielding an outside world from a field of view of a user when mounted on the user, an information presentation block presents information including audio and a moving image to the field of view of the user; a video reproduction block reproduces a video of content; a camera takes a video of the outside world; a switching block selectively switches between the video of the content and the video of the outside world and causes the selected video to be presented onto the information presentation block; and a gain control block, when the switching block switches from the video of the content to the video of the outside world, gradually increases a brightness of the video of the outside world.
