Article of cleated footwear having medial and lateral sides with differing properties

An article of footwear includes a sole having a different performing lateral and medial regions. Ground engaging members, such as cleats, provide traction and one of the regions, preferably the lateral region, includes a stability member extending from the sole and spanning between a pair of adjacent ground engaging members in a heel to toe direction. The ground engaging members may have a body and a tip portion. Each tip portion may be integrally formed with all or a portion of its respective body. The medial and lateral regions include buttressing member having different characteristics and dimensions for strengthening the ground engaging members with providing enhanced flexibility.

System and methods for measuring propulsive force during ambulation and providing real-time feedback

The invention measures propulsive force of an ambulating subject to provide real-time feedback, which may be used for clinical assessment or rehabilitation / training such as that related to walking ability, or any other form of ambulation. Subjects with propulsive deficits have a considerable and underutilized propulsive reserve available during level ambulation. The invention uses real-time propulsive feedback as a therapeutic strategy to encourage a subject to access the propulsive reserve and improve forward propulsion during ambulation.

Sliding system with onboard moving-coil linear motor

A sliding system with onboard moving-coil linear motor is disclosed in which an armature assembly is a printed-circuit board, armature windings of flat configuration and coil stay having a stay and any number of cores made integral with the stay. The armature assembly is held by virtue of the stay at a preselected location inside an interval defined between field magnet arrays and, therefore, is small and compact in height in transverse section. A bed formed in an angled hook-like configuration in a transverse section contributes to shrinkage of the sliding system in either of height and width in transverse section or most compactness of the sliding system in transverse dimension. Moreover, the bed can be selected in length at discretion according to the purpose of usage to provide any desirable stroke length for a single table of a preselected length, getting the sliding system convenient for usage.

Ship hull structure and a method of operating the ship

A ship hull structure includes a main hull and a movable rearbody having an engine and a propeller. The movable rearbody is located at a lower side of a stern of the main hull, connected with an aft of the main hull to form an integral unit by a hinge linking device allowing the rearbody to pivot up and down. By a block, a crane or a winch and through a chain or a hanging wire, a pivoting angle of the movable rearbody with respect to the main hull can be adjusted and controlled. A bottom of the hull can be provided with at least one, usually plural, air cushion recess, which is filled with pressurized air to reduce a viscous force between a bottom of the ship and water. When a ship of this kind of structure is sailing, the rearbody can be lifted up by the block or the winch, allowing part of the propeller to be separated from a water surface to reduce resistance in the water that the engine can achieve a required rotational speed (RPM) in a short time. Next, the rearbody is laid down slowly, allowing the propeller to be put into the water, thereby increasing propulsion and quickly achieving a cruising speed. When the ship is sailing and encounters with wind wave, the stern will ascend by longitudinal pitching; at this time, the rearbody can descend by its own weight, with a hinge axis as a center, preventing the propeller to leave the water surface to rotate idly. On the other hand, when a bow ascends (that is, the stern descends), the rearbody will maintain a normal draught height by buoyancy of the water and the force between the water and running propeller Therefore, for the entire ship, a wetted surface area of the propeller can be adjusted automatically to keep at a best sailing condition, which can further save fuel consumption significantly. In another embodiment that the bottom of the ship is formed with the air cushion recesses, a friction force of the water can be reduced to increase a ship speed by the air cushion effect formed at the bottom of the ship.

Method and apparatus for balancing the emission current of neutralizers in ion thruster arrays

An apparatus and method for balancing the emission current of neutralizers in ion thruster arrays is disclosed that allows a single power processing unit (PPU) to be used to drive the array. A typical embodiment includes at least one voltage-regulated power supply, each voltage-regulated power supply for driving a common element in each of the plurality of ion thrusters, the common element in each of the plurality of ion thrusters being coupled together at a common point, and a current balance circuit for providing a substantially balanced current to each neutralizer cathode of the plurality of ion thrusters by providing a voltage to the neutralizer cathodes relative to the common point.
