Methods and devices for fixing a defect in a vertebral disc of a patient. One method includes providing first, second, third, and fourth sutures. The first and second sutures are fastened to a vertebra cranial to the vertebral disc at first and second locations, respectively. The third and fourth sutures are fastened to a vertebra caudal to the vertebral disc at third and fourth locations, respectively. A device, such as a mesh device, is positioned adjacent the defect. The first, second, third, and fourth sutures are then positioned against the device, on the side of the device opposite of the defect. Tension is then applied to the first, second, third, and fourth sutures. Each of the first, second, third, and fourth sutures are then attached to at least one of the first, second, third, and fourth sutures, thereby holding the device adjacent the defect.

Waterproof nail and screw with enlarged head and protective gasket

An integral nail / disk structure that eliminates the need of having any exposed nails associated with a shingled roof having a color matching body member integrally formed with a roofing nail. Another embodiment including a fastener such as a nail or screw having an enlarged head and an associated gasket member for fastening sheet metal to a roof structure. The gasket member has a sealant on both of its top and bottom surfaces so as to adhere both to the underside of the enlarged head portion of the nail or screw, and to the sheet metal to create a waterproof seal. Still another embodiment includes an enlarged cap member associated with a gasket member attached to its underside portion wherein the cap / gasket member can be attached over a fastener hole in a roof, or over a faulty roofing nail or screw in lieu of caulking techniques usually used to cure leaks where the faulty fastener attaches sheet metal to a roofing structure.

Position adjustable support assembly

A position adjustable support assembly provides a support extension that is detachably attachable to a support member. The support extension is attached by an extension attachment that has a support coupler that extends along the length of the support member and has a gap opening to allow the support coupler to be snapped onto the support member. The support coupler may be cylindrical in shape and snap over the rod-shaped support member in a concentric coupling arrangement. The support member has a fin slot for retaining a plurality of fins that extend up from the outside surface of the support member. The fins are slid into a retaining slot along the inside surface of the support coupler to retain the support coupler and support extension in a rotational position with respect to the support member. The support extension can be slid along the length of the support member.

Compositions and methods for surface mineralization

InactiveUS20170028103A1Promote surface-mineralizationEnhanced surface mineral coveragePharmaceutical delivery mechanismTissue regenerationSkeletal tissueInterfacial adhesion
The invention provides novel compositions and methods of surface mineralization for metallic or ceramic implants and devices and the resulting enhancement of properties and performance in skeletal tissue engineering, orthopedic applications and dental care. The novel approach utilizes zwitterionic brushes (e.g., of poly(sulfobetaine methacrylate) or pSBMA) covalently grafted on the surface of titanium or its alloy substrates (e.g., Ti6Al4V) to promote surface-mineralization of hydroxyapatite with enhanced surface mineral coverage and mineral-substrate interfacial adhesion. The zwitterionic surface brushes, capable of attracting both cationic and anionic precursor ions during hydroxyapatite-mineralization, significantly increase the surface mineral coverage and significantly reinforce the attachment of the surface apatite crystals on the titanium alloy substrate which withstood supersonication treatment.
