Control method for executing functions in a diary watch

The control method allows execution of various functions in an electronic diary watch, which includes, in a case closed by a crystal, a time-keeping circuit and/or a watch movement powered by an energy source, and a dial on which the time is displayed in a digital and/or analogue manner. A determined number of sensors (C1 to C7) are provided with touch sensitive pads arranged on an inner or outer face of the crystal. These sensors are provided for carrying out the various controls of the method when they are individually activated by a user's finger. In order to consult data or parameters, the method includes a first series of steps consisting in displaying different menus (102 to 106) of the diary function on at least one liquid crystal display by activating at least one sensor (C4, C5) of a group of sensors (C4 to C7), and in selecting the menu or record to be consulted (107 to 111) by activating a validation sensor (C1). In order to enter data, the method includes a second series of steps consisting in activating the validation sensor (C1) for a determined period of time or with a determined application of pressure, entering diary data by activating certain sensors (C2 to C7) each controlling execution of a specific determined function, and validating data entered by action on the validation sensor.

Emergency phone with alternate number calling capability

An emergency-use-only cellular phone provides for contacting and establishing full-duplex voice communication with emergency personnel at either a public emergency response service or a private roadside assistance service. The phone automatically places a cellular call to the public emergency response service with a single press of a first activation button, and to the private roadside assistance service with a single press of a second activation button. When either activation button is pressed, the following functions are initiated: (1) electrical power from a power supply is provided to a cellular transmitter and receiver, (2) the cellular receiver is activated to search for an available channel from among A or B cellular system channels, (3) an emergency telephone number corresponding to the selected service is accessed from memory, and (4) the cellular transmitter is activated to establish communication with the selected emergency response service. Since all of these functions are initiated by pressing one button, communication with the selected emergency response service may be established simply and speedily, even under stressful conditions. The phone may include a modular GPS receiver unit for providing location information to the public emergency response service or a private roadside assistance service.

Controlling a terminal of a communication system

The present invention relates to a terminal for a communication system. The terminal comprises detector means that are arranged to detect if there is a contact between at least one surface of the terminal and the skin of the user of the terminal. The detection means comprise at least two different detector arrangements for detecting a contact between the terminal and the user. The detector arrangements each comprise independently operating sensor means (7, 8, 30). At least one function of the terminal is arranged to be controlled based on a signal generated by the detecting means in response to the detection. The invention relates further to a detector arrangement for a communications terminal and a method for controlling a communications terminal.

Lock-out for power assisted strapping tool

A lock-out assembly for a strapping tool prevents inadvertent actuation of the tool sealer cycle prior to completion of the tensioning cycle. The tool includes a pneumatic module having tensioning cycle and sealer cycle valves mounted therein. The valves are actuated by overlying levers. The lock-out assembly includes an arm operably mounted to the pneumatic module having a first engaging portion for engaging the tensioning valve lever and a second blocking portion for blocking the sealer valve lever. The arm is movable between a first position in which the tensioning valve lever is in the non-actuated position and the arm block portion interferes with movement of the sealer valve lever to prevent moving the sealer valve to the actuated position, and a second position in which the tensioning valve lever engages the arm engaging portion to move the arm blocking portion from interfering with the sealer valve lever to permit moving the sealer valve lever into contact with the sealer valve to move the sealer valve to the actuated position.
