Picture transmission and display between wireless and wireline telephone systems

A 3G-camera phone (9) user may transfer photographic images from 3G-camera phone to an image viewing device (11) associated with a residential telephone (13) accessible on the PSTN telephone network (3). Both the image viewing device (11) and telephone (13) are connected to narrowband PTSN POTS telephone line (25). Through use of a call waiting (6) feature of the networks, data transfer is performed over a single narrowband PTSN POTS line with the voice conversation put on hold. Reciprocal image transmission is also possible. Like data transfers may also be made to telephone users having broadband DSL (45, 47 FIGS. 8 &10) or CATV (54, 57 FIGS. 9 &11) or VoIP (82, FIGS. 10 &11) services. An Internet (7) connected fileserver (15) uses a lookup table (23) to determine the kind of line to which the image viewing device is connected and select the appropriate routing for the image transfer.

Method, apparatus and computer program product for transferring files between devices via drag and drop

A method, apparatus, system and computer program product are provided for transferring files stored on a source device to a target device by dragging and dropping the file from the source device touchscreen to the target device touchscreen. When the source device detects that the user has dragged the file to the edge, or other predefined location, of the source device touchscreen, the source device will automatically identify and establish a connection with the target device. Once the connection has been established, an image or icon associated with the file can be transferred to the target device, so that the user of the target device can indicate the location to which the file should be transferred by dragging the icon to that location. Once the target device user drops the icon at the predefined location, the file can be transferred to that location.

Integrated messaging user interface with message-based logging

Mechanisms for organizing messages across different message types. This may be accomplished by using a single integrated user interface in which messages across a variety of different message types are represented in a common way. For example, the user experience of placing a telephone call is standardized, regardless of the actual telephone technology (Cell Phone, VoIP, or POTS) used to conduct the telephone conversation. Also, addition to a general log that includes the overall list of messages, each message also has a separate, message-based log, thereby allowing for more flexible querying and organization of the messages regardless of the message type.

Mobile station and interface adapted for feature extraction from an input media sample

A mobile station has a processor and a user input mechanism such as a button that is operable to cause the processor to extract at least one feature from a digital media sample. The feature, such as a spectral centroid, is descriptive of an identity of a content of the media sample. Preferably, the same user input that causes the feature extraction also causes a transmitter to establish a link and to send a message to a network address, the message having a plurality of extracted features from which the digital media sample may not be reconstructed. Where a reply message identifies a media file that matches the media sample, another user input at the same or a different button causes an authorization message to be sent so that a copy of the media file, identified in the reply message and having features that exactly match the plurality of extracted and transmitted features, is downloaded to the mobile station.

Peer-to-peer engine for object sharing in communication devices

ActiveUS20060010204A1Transferring from the communication device to the further communication deviceMultiple digital computer combinationsFile transfer between terminalsCode division multiple accessThird generation
This invention describes a method for sharing of application specific objects between communication devices (e.g., a mobile communication device or a mobile phone) using middleware containing a peer-to-peer engine. This engine is completely peer-to-peer based and no servers are needed in the network. Especially games are seen as a promising potential application for the invention. An application registers to the peer-to-peer (P2P) engine when it wants to share or download files. The P2P engine takes care of the file sharing and informs when a new file has been downloaded so the application can start using it and the P2P engine delivers them to the appropriate application directories. The P2P engine can use either a 2G or 3G general packet radio system (GPRS), a wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) or a Bluetooth as a transport for the file sharing and the choice of the transport is left to the user.

System and method for allowing a user to opt for automatic or selectively sending of media

The present invention is directed to a system and method which allows for the seamless integration of the sending mechanism with the media acquiring mechanism of a portable device. In this manner the end-user has instant access to media sharing with complete control over how the media is shared. This integration is accomplished by presenting to the user a series of screens that are available directly from the media creation applications (e.g. cameras or audio recorders) and media viewing applications (e.g. photo galleries or screen savers) on the device. When a photo (or other media) is captured or viewed, a series of pre-established processing options, including on-device uses for the media, internet services and accounts, email addresses and / or phone numbers to which the media can be sent are presented to the user. Some options require no further user interaction. Defaults are also available which require no user interaction at all, combining together the manual selection of certain processing options or destinations with the automatic selection of other processing options or destinations. Thus, the sending process becomes essentially a selection process allowing the user to override defaults by either selecting from choices tailored to the user including already known address information of potential recipients or to allow the media to be automatically sent to a previously identified location according to the current “default” user preferences. In the situation where a new address or phone number is desired, the user can add such information in a simple and straight-forward manner.
