Adaptable eye movement measurement device

The presently disclosed invention is a device for measuring horizontal and vertical eye movement. The device is adaptable to utilize multiple measurement technologies (e.g., direct infrared, electro-oculography, ultrasound, or video), and is capable of measuring each eye individually or both eyes jointly. The present invention overcomes the shortcomings of the prior art by requiring minimal adjustment for accurate measurement, only minimally obstructing the user's visual range (i.e., slightly more than the user's own nose), being made of low cost and readily available material, and by being comprised of a comfortable and efficient design of an adjustable nose and forehead piece with an adjustable head strap. An additional advancement over the prior art is that the presently disclosed device does not require an aperture or frame, as did the prior art, or any additional optics such as, lenses, mirrors, or prisms. The device rests on the user's nose with the sensors located near the nasal area of the eye(s) utilizing a nose bridge component to house the measuring technology. The forehead piece and head strap provide for ease of alignment, added stability, and a wide range of test applications. The greater field of vision provided by this device allows for a wide range of test applications.

Spectacles for use in an eye monitoring system include a pair of ocular frames and a sensor unit adapted to be positioned adjacent an eye of the wearer. A nose bridge connects the ocular frames and incorporates an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the vertical position of the sensor unit relative to the eye. A frame arm extends from the outer edge of each ocular frame and is adapted to fit over the ear of a wearer. The sensor unit incorporates two infra red emitters at different angles and an infra red detector recessed into the surface of the unit to reduce the proportion of signal received by said detector which is not from the signal emitter reflected by the eye or eyelids.

A binocular viewing system provides images from electronic display elements to the left and right eyes of a user transmitted via right eye and left eye display assemblies connected by a nose bridging element. The binocular viewing system includes an interpupillary distance adjustment mechanism to accommodate multiple users. Accommodation for vision correction and a focus mechanism may also be provided. Also, the binocular viewing system provides a virtual image at a distance less than infinity, in an arrangement that also accommodates a range of interpupillary distances. The present invention relates to a pair of glasses, which includes a pair of frames, a pair of lenses, a nose bridge, and a pair of temples. Each frame has an upper convex rim and a lower convex rim at an external side. The upper convex rim has an upper aperture while the lower convex rim has a lower aperture. The lenses are fixed in the frames and the nose bridge is connected between the two frames. The frames, lenses, and nose bridge are integrally formed. Each temple has an upper bump and a lower bump at its front end. The upper bump has an upper pin for insertion into the upper aperture and the lower bump has a lower pin for insertion into the lower aperture.
