Respiratory mask

A respiratory mask having a flexible, mask seal portion for engagement with the face of a user, a gel forehead cushion and a rotatable elbow coupling having integral exhaust ports. The mask seal portion has a thin section which permits the mask to more easily adapt to the contour of the face of the user. The gel forehead cushion provides increased compliancy and resiliency to better adapt to multiple user physical profiles. The elbow coupling includes tapered through holes in a polycarbonate arc piece to provide a quiet passage of gas through the holes.

Universal fitting headgear

A universally fitting headgear that is readily adjustable to a variety of different sized patients and that couples a patient interface device to an airway of the patient. The headgear includes a headpiece that fits on the user's heal in a cap-like fashion. The circumference of the headpiece is adjustable so that a single sized headgear can be fit to a number of different sized patient's. The headpiece includes adjustment straps which adjustably connect to each other on the sides of the patient's head. The headpiece further includes connecting straps to adjustably connecting the headgear to a patient interface device, such as a gas delivery mask. The headgear of the present invention fits a wide range of head sizes and shapes, is easy to use, and provides increased stability.

Patient interface and aspects thereof

A patient interface has a single loop headstrap and a mask for covering at least the nostrils of the user. The single loop headstrap extends from the mask at either end. A short length of supple conduit is coupled to the mask by a swivel or ball joint to allow rotation of the conduit relative to the mask through different angles and orientations.

An emergency medical kit for use, particularly by a non-professional, to render emergency medical treatment to a patient, includes: a pressurized-oxygen container within a housing; a face mask within the housing for application to the face of a patient requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation; and a respiratory pump within the housing connected to the pressurized-oxygen container so as to be driven thereby to supply oxygen to the mask for inhalation by the patient, and to discharge the exhalations of the patient via the face mask to the atmosphere. The face mask includes an inflatable seal around its circumference engageable with the face of the patient receiving the mask for sealing the interior of the mask; a pressure sensor sensing the pressure in the inflatable seal; and an indicator for indicating whether the face mask is properly applied to the face of the patient. The kit further includes a neck rest having straps for attaching the face mask thereto in contact with the patient's face when the patient's head is placed on the head rest. According to a most essential aspect of the invention there is provided an emergency, fully automatic kit, based on non-invasive means for performing all stages of the “chain of survival” (including: external defibrillation, ventilation and automatic chest compression) by a single operator.
