A decision support system (DSS) is an information system that supports business or organizational decision-making activities. DSSs serve the management, operations and planning levels of an organization (usually mid and higher management) and help people make decisions about problems that may be rapidly changing and not easily specified in advance—i.e. unstructured and semi-structured decision problems. Decision support systems can be either fully computerized or human-powered, or a combination of both.

Method and apparatus for analyzing data and advertising optimization

The most preferred embodiment of the present invention is a computer-based decision support system that includes three main components: a database mining engine (DME); an advertising optimization mechanism; and a customized user interface that provides access to the various features of the invention. The user interface, in conjunction with the DME, provides a unique and innovative way to store, retrieve and manipulate data from existing databases containing media-related audience access data, which describe the access habits and preferences of the media audience. By using a database with a simplified storage and retrieval protocol, the data contained therein can be effectively manipulated in real time. This means that previously complex and lengthy information retrieval and analysis activities can be accomplished in very short periods of time (typically seconds instead of minutes or even hours). Further, by utilizing the advertising optimization mechanism of the present invention, businesses, networks, and advertising agencies can interactively create, score, rank and compare various proposed or actual advertising strategies in a simple and efficient manner. This allows the decision-makers to more effectively tailor their marketing efforts and successfully reach the desired target market while conserving scarce advertising capital. Finally, the user interface for the system provides access to both the DME and the optimization mechanism in a simple and straightforward manner, significantly reducing training time.

System and Method For Integrating Heterogeneous Biomedical Information

A system and method for using heterogeneous data from multiple healthcare information sources in a medical decision support system is disclosed. Each healthcare information system stores medical data using a different local schema. The medical decision support system provides responses to user queries. A query is received from a user that is generated in a standardized global schema. The query includes information from medical ontologies. Database queries are generated from the user queries that use the medical ontologies to generate constraints in the queries. The medical ontologies are also used to infer database queries. The generated query is translated into multiple queries for the multiple healthcare systems wherein each query is in the local schema of the healthcare information system that is being queried. Each database query is transmitted to one of the healthcare information systems based on the local schema of the particular query. Data is collected from each of the queried healthcare information system and analyzed. A query response is formulated for the user

Diagnosis Support System Providing Guidance to a User by Automated Retrieval of Similar Cancer Images with User Feedback

The present invention is a diagnosis support system providing automated guidance to a user by automated retrieval of similar disease images and user feedback. High resolution standardized labeled and unlabeled, annotated and non-annotated images of diseased tissue in a database are clustered, preferably with expert feedback. An image retrieval application automatically computes image signatures for a query image and a representative image from each cluster, by segmenting the images into regions and extracting image features in the regions to produce feature vectors, and then comparing the feature vectors using a similarity measure. Preferably the features of the image signatures are extended beyond shape, color and texture of regions, by features specific to the disease. Optionally, the most discriminative features are used in creating the image signatures. A list of the most similar images is returned in response to a query. Keyword query is also supported.
