Color laser engraving and digital watermarking

A color laser engraving method engraves a document including a surface layer and one or more sub-layers. The sub-layer includes different colors and orientations of ink. A laser provides openings in the surface layer—to expose color ink in the sub-layer—to create color images and / or text. The different orientations of the colored inks include, e.g., circular, linear and overlapped groupings of ink. A sub-layer preferably includes many repeated instances of the grouping. A digital watermark is embedded in a document via transfer of the digital watermark in an embedded image or text, or by pre-embedding the document via altering intensity of colored inks on the original document card stock. A digital watermark can be carried via modulation with a pseudo-random noise sequence.

Greeting card feeder module for inkjet printing

A hardcopy printing mechanism and a greeting card feeder retrofit kit therefor, along with a retrofitting method are provided for printing images on a first-sized media, and on both surfaces a second-sized greeting card media without removing the first-sized media from its normal supply tray. The hardcopy device may be an electrophotographic or inkjet printer preferably equipped with a duplexer module which inverts media from a printed first surface to an opposing second surface for printing an image thereon. For a printer having an alignment surface, and a width adjuster to push the first-sized media against the alignment surface, the greeting card feeder includes a biasing member which pushes the card stock against the alignment surface. The retrofit kit includes a supply of pre-scored greeting card stock and a software program with a group of greeting card images for a consumer to select from to print store-bought quality greeting cards.

Method and apparatus for generating and dispensing gift cards

A method and apparatus for generating and dispensing gift cards for an associated merchant. A customer enters a value for the gift card through a customer input pad, and pays for the card by swiping a credit card through a credit card reader. After authorization is received, a card transporter pulls a serialized gift card from a card stock hopper. The card transporter then moves the card to a gift card inspector, which determines whether the serial number of the gift card can be properly read. If not, the bad card is deposited in a bad card bin. If the serial number can be properly read, the card transporter moves the card to a good card dispenser, which dispenses the gift card to the customer.

Method of forming printable media

Ultraremovable adhesive is applied to a paper sheet to form therewith a liner sheet and the liner sheet is laminated to a cardstock sheet to form a laminate cardstock. The cardstock sheet is then die cut therethrough, but not through the liner sheet, to form cardstock cut lines that define at least in part perimeters of business cards (or other printable media). The outer face of the liner sheet is then die cut therethrough, but not through the cardstock sheet, to form liner sheet strips on a back side of the cardstock sheet. Some of the strips define cover strips covering some of the cardstock cut lines, and others of the strips define waste strips. The waste strips are then matrix removed from the back of the cardstock sheet. The resulting business card sheet construction is then fed through a printer or copier by the user and the desired indicia printed on the front sides of the business cards, while the cover strips hold the cards together as a unit sheet construction. After this printing operation, the printed cards are easily peeled off of the cover strips, ready for use. By designing the sheet construction to form in the printed media with different sizes and shapes and by including optional scored fold lines, and / or additional flexibility cut lines or flexibility perforation lines, media aside from business cards, such as post cards and greeting cards, can be constructed and used pursuant to this invention.

Claim tag assembly

A claim tag assembly has a first layer of card stock and a second layer of card stock with a liner sandwiched therebetween. Score lines are cut through the layers of card stock and the liner to define a first identification portion and a second identification portion. A first identifier is printed on the first identification portion for conveying a first message and a second identifier is printed on the second identification portion for conveying a second message which is identical to the first message. The first and second identification portions can then be matched after separation. The score lines further defining a card with the card being separable from the first and second identification portions. The card has at least promotional indicia and / or a coupon printed thereon for providing a marketing aspect to the claim tag assembly. Preferably, the card has a plurality of mini-coupons which can be detached from the card.
